1967 Norton Cafe Racer Build

This is a discussion on 1967 Norton Cafe Racer Build within the Project Builds forums, part of the Caferacer.net Forums category; I guess I'm comparing it to the Commando which has a greater distance between the carbs and head. Just looks kinda odd....

    I think, I'm more: Ba-bump, Vroom-Vroom, Ba-bump, Vroom

I still can’t get my idle under 2000 and a have no more slack in the cable. I think the cable is just to short for me set-up. I’m thinking of removing a ¼ inch casing off the cable to give me the slack I need.
    Any ideas on this?

Disconnect the cable first, see if that solves the problem.

There are three places to adjust for slack and all three are turned all the way in. At this setting there is no free play in the cable.

    I like this suggestion:

... and if the problem doesn't go away, try putting the bike on about a 15 degree incline and see if it has something to do with the carburetors not sitting level

Can't get the bike to idle under 2500 rpms. There is just not enough slack in the cable for the throttle valve to fully sit at the bottom. So, I have removed half an inch of casing from the throttle cable, this has given me now play(slack). It still looks clean and can not be seen, but gives me the function I was missing. I've balanced the slack evenly between the two carbs, so they will open at the same time. Now I just need it to warm up, before I can test the set-up again.

Had a couple of days were it got warm enough for me to set the idle. It took me about an hour, but she’s idling around a 1000 and sounds pretty good. I’m sure she need some more adjustments come summer, but for now I’m happy.
