Ya that would be a tough choice, buy that or a brand new 2017 CB300F complete with a new motorcycle warranty for 100 dollars less.

Now a Singles Ducati Race Bike: Just so you didn't waste that click.

Uber Rare 1993 Ducati Supermono #22

It's always worth taking note whenever the very exclusive Ducati Supermono comes to market. This is one has reportedly been upgraded to 95 spec with a slightly larger engine capacity. Current bid is high $30k's which is probably at least the same amount left to reach reserve. But if your garage has been needing the ultimate in 90's Ducati collectables, it's time for that 2nd mortgage and a trip to Italy!

I was SO hoping they'd make a street bike out of that, I'd love to have one for a track toy. I wonder what you'd end up with if you built a similar single out of a modern twin???

And yeah, that Scrambler is a huge money pit. "rest there" is a bit optimisitic, and what is there needs everything. I think it'd only take about $6k of work to make it into a $4k bike. Too far gone for a restoration but yeah, it'd be a cool base for a project bike.

That was the bike I wanted when i was racing. I would have taken one for the street also.

As far as making a single out of the twin it has been done. One with counter balance and another using the second cylinder as a pump for boost. I read articles on them at one point.

Not the same with all the extra weight though.

    A re-balanced one.

IIRC the supermono was developed from a twin originally. The second piston was turned into an articulated(?) weight to balance it. I'm pretty sure if you followed the same line of work you'd come up with something that weighed abtou the same?

I read about it back then too, had delusions of trying it myself (those things have never been cheap enough for me to buy one) but it was just one of many ideas on the list of things to do someday... not sure it'd be worth the effort these days but if Ducati wanted to revisit it I'd be all ears.

I've got a 350 narrowcase that I started pumping money into, but when I tallied up what it would take to finish it the way I envisioned, the numbers didn't make sense anymore. I've already got more into it than what a brand spanking new RC390 would cost and it's not even near running yet. I stopped short of buying the dry clutch conversion or trying to get one of the 4 valve heads a buddy had cast for them...

I know it's been said before Building and restoration work is not a good way to save money, you have to want to be interested in doing the work.

The article with the balance arm had drawings I might have to have a look for it just to taunt you. You never know when a good donor bike is going to drop in your lap.

I have my RD almost complete and haven't been able to get myself to spend the last cit for the crank after tallying up the receipts. Really not too bad but I have had 2 or 3 other bikes to ride so it's not been a priority.

RC390 seems like a perfect track toy,

890 Duke is close in specs
