Anyone ride one of these before?
Debating if I want to get into one. I read a lot of things concerning the splines, driveshaft service, and other topics with these BMW's.

If the price is right, I don't think I'd mind.
Looking for a nice upright seating commuter.

I've ridden a few of the 4 cylinder bricks - the first thing you notice is they don't "clunk" when you put them into gear because of the car style dry clutch.

The 4's are pretty boring though - I'd be hoping the triple has a bit more character.

The triples sound better than the fours, and are far smoother than the fours. They are a little lighter than the fours. I'd ride a BMW triple before any of the earlier fours.

If you want to commute and ride at near legal speeds, the triples are far better.

BMWs always have weird parts here and there that wear out. If you want a bullet proof commuter, get a GS850G or GS1000G. Or a 1st gen SV650.

    Danger, is my business.

Witworth, you should be looking at newer EX250's etc. Something small, light and reliable for your first bike. Have you taken a MSF course yet?

I've owned 5 K100's over the years, as Hillsy said they're not the most exciting bike in the world, but they'll cruise at 100mph all day every day, and return 55mpg.
As Witorth said the 750's are smoother.
Servicing is mainly oil changes, engine oil, and filter... every 5000 miles, gear box, and drive shaft... every 10,000 miles (80w/90 must be GL5)
Air filter and plugs.... every 10,000
    Shims and injectors... every 20,000
Drive shaft splines need greasing fairly regulalry, but it's not a difficult job.
Tyres and brake pads last reasonably well.
I had to replace the gearbox and bevel drive on one bike but this was after a little over 200,000 miles.
If I was to buy another it would probably be a Triple

No need to take rider training courses, when a person has run them for years.
