i was into the bobber scene pretty heavy, but just picked up 2 '78 honda CB400t'sand want to make at least one a nice cafe.
first question is, cant seem to find many cafe builds on the cb400t's. wondering if they are hard to convert to a nice looking one? maybe just cause the cc's?
also trying to find a source for a solo seat tail, and a nicer cafe style tank then what comes on the cb400 stock.
no...it is just cause they are cheap and boring, and their owners tend to reflect that. Search here, dozens of people show up here every year with one of thie awful lumps of shit with the hopes of making shineola, one of them has to have finished a bike at some point.
you do know a cafe bike is more than just some checkerboards, a handlebar, and a seat right?
Bobbers? so you built pre 1960's street flat track racers did ya? or just the immitation HD early choppers stuff people mistakenly call bobbers these days?
if you're looking for ready-made "cafe"parts, you have the wrong bike. however, that bike is cheap, parts are readily available (exhausts, brakes, engines, etc) so not an impossible job at all.
if you do, i might show you my extensive collection of radical CB400T cafe builds i have completed over the years, and turn you on to my custom ground cams, high compression pistons, close ratio 6 speed gearboxes, and super secret DIY porting techniques.
however nothing till you put some work into telling us what at least your first name is and where you are from.
geeto is actually the good cop of caferacer.net.....i'm MR. BAD COP!
I had been previously convinced that those bikes weren't worth a damn, but I have re-thought my position on them. I would be happy to take one and make it into something worthwhile. The only thing about them that really sucks is the rear shocks (clevis/clevis), and rear shock upper mounts.
The frame is probably pretty flexible, but this is not a bike you're going to race, and tens of thousands of these bikes were made and sold here so Honda couldn't be all wrong.
The front brake sucks much less than the CB450/500T brake. It gets good gas mileage. It's cheap. The motor is reliable. Go for it!
I also (evidently) lack tuning skills for the Ascot. I'm just saying though, we all started from somewhere, why not be less critical?
I'm not new to forums. If someone came to a Honda forum, asked where to get a gigantic spoiler and octopus decals...they're sure to get flammed, so case in point; don't act like Honda people.
Does that make any sense? Also, newbs like us wouldn't be posting here unless we really really liked the projects and knowledge being exchanged here. I can see how people may get a little offended from people 'hopping on the bandwagon', but I've liked cafe racers before they were 'trendy'.
Tex, OP is not the Ascot dude. Different dude. I don't have the CB, I gots a CM, how have you not seen that? If your secrets are for engine mods, they should still be viable, no? Don't be a hater. There are pics about...they were in the pics of your bike sticky, but i just made a new thread for em too.
Does this mean you will shine, upon me, a beacon of vast 400T illumination? Will the words I squint to see through the blinding incandescence of accumulated 400T wisdom include "PITCH IT OFF A CLIFF QUICKLY"?

I wish my lawn was emo - then it would cut itself.
spaceman's bike (posted in another thread) is probably one of the better cb400ts I have seen, in that it doesn't make me want to pitch it off a cliff. heck I might even actually consider riding it if I wasn't plagued with flashbacks of how painfully slow a cb400t is.
I forgot that one! Honest, Officer, I swear I wasn't even looking at her!
wait, what were we talking about?
You own a 400t that <s>does not suck</s> rocks. You're right, I should have remembered that.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
