also alot of the hate that the OP is getting is coming from the fact that your not being honest to the bike....

what i mean by that is that if you came here and said
"i found out about cafe bike and think its cool. i want to learn more about what makes a cafe. i bought this bike as i think it will be a great learner and down the road ill get something to cafe"
that shows that you made a good choice in buying a simple bike to learn how to ride and learn what it takes to keep and old bike on the road.

lets not hate to much on the hawk when it is used how it is ment to be used.
its is a basic small slow bike. but i think would be great for a new guy to learn on.

    but it is NOT
a performance bike and its really not worth trying to make it that.

there are many other bikes out there that can be "cafe'ed" and latter down the road it would be better to get something else to build a cafe out of.

where the problem is coming from is that you want to put clubmans on a stock hawk.
this shows that you have been looking at pics of cafe and want your bike to look like that.
but you havent found out that cafe bikes need to perform,

if you put clubmans on a hawk you have nothing......
you no longer have a good basic bike
you have a bike thats uncomfortable and a real pain in the ass to ride.
and its got less performance then you started

That honda guy in Potsdam is the biggest douche ever. He literally told me fuck you after I wouldnt pay like 20 dollars for an oil seal thats like 5 bucks off honda-parts. I want to do unspeakable things to that store. Also, Jags add really does work haha he gets people wanting to trade or sell interesting stuff almost weekly.
Geeto-Will might not admit this but have you heard the stuff he was banging before his current girl? :/
JackC-if youre ever in Potsdam soon let us know im sure there are plenty of bikes in our garage for us all to go for a ride.

    Bassmaster,

Thanks for the invite but I don't plan on ever going to Potsdam again, unless that Honda guy dies and they have an auction. I agree he is a dick. Both boys are done with college there (state).

Every time I went up there from Oneonta between October and May I got stuck in a snow storm around Pulaski.

Same offer for here extended to you all.

Nah, sold it. The guy who bought it is a friend of a member here and a new rider. Doesn't have any notions of throwing clubmans on it, just wants to ride on the highway.

Internet isn't for ultra-deviant bondage porn, in the comfort of your own home? That's what I thought it was for.

I have never seen Geeto be anything but nice & sweet & gentle, his CR.net doppleganger, however, entertains the shit outta me, almost every single day.
On to Spif's very handsome Hhawk, I believe he sold it because it bored him to tears, and he couldn't bear to keep riding it anymore. So, it's the mid 80s Buick Skylark of motorcycles?

New guy: Branch of service & MOS, please.

well thanks all for the mixed emotions

for all who want to have more of an introduction im Patrick, 26 yrs old, 5 years Navy service working on all types of AC deployed on bullet sponges "frigates" live up in the south shore of MA

i got the bike because of the price and the condition, it was not initally bought for the purpose of chaning it around its another toy i can use during the short riding season up here
i have looked alot through the search and it brings up 99% of the same thing, people just saying your bike sucks, get a different one. well, not too much help, im not getting a new one im keeping this one
bike is 100% original i got it from a man in his late 70s, he bought it new January of 1979 i have the original Title, bill of sale and registration when i picked up the bike.
i am not even close to being interested in "racing" the bike, im a pilot and if i was racing and messed up my body well that would ruin my career.
as far as the parts listed those are just the parts i could find myself.
i have seen a few builds where people cut the back off shortened it and re fabed the way they wanted it, they also just sell a seat that has a rounded back and is for one person, the clubman bars well i like the look of them, or a low drag bar, i like the look of a spoke wheel but i may just keep mine and have them done black to cut back on costs for now.
as for right now im looking for the easy thinkgs i can do without tearing the bike down, its too close to being nice out every day to ride
the quick thing i can see would be new bars, lights, seat, guages, all of what im having a hard time to find besides bar and seat
at the end of the season with hopefully a few extra bucks i will add new shocks and maybe tear down the back to shorten it up some, i have a bit of metal work under my belt but family who has done it and built bikes for years.
i didnt look for and "easy" bike to do it because thats boring and cookie cutter to me, my own parts or parts robbed from a diffrent doner bike would be ideal. i really like the yellow one that getto posted is kinda what im looking to do over some time and not with a huge budget, im not keeping the bike forever as most people never do

thank you for all the imput and any place or person that knows of other parts or interchangeable parts that can fit with some adjusting would be great.
ill try to figure how to post a pic

To post a pic, go to FAQ here. There is a tutorial on it, but once your pics are in your photobucket album, to copy it click on the box that starts http:, I think it is bottom one of 4 or 5. Then just go to your post and click paste. I couldn't figure it out for a long time, then just paid attention to the instructions and it worked.

Taking one of the above posters advice, I went over to dotheton.com and looked in their for sale section. There is a guy there selling some cb400 stuff, but I suspect it is stock take offs, though I saw some chrome gauges- I don't know much about those "new" bikes.

What do you fly? 26 years ago a Cessna 172 was my "ride" of choice.
