What the fuck was the guy trying to do? Make a U-turn in the middle of a busy interstate so he could go the wrong way?

It almost freakin looks like he did it on purpose.

Squids...without them the internet just wouldn't be as much fun.

edit: after watching the video a couple of times, I don't think it was entirely the girls fault (and kudos to her for wearing full armor on the street). I do think traffic had lulled her and she wasn't as attentive as she should be but then again who is on their daily commute. She also looks to be speeding since she is closing or passing all the other cars on the road but it does not seem excessive.

actually, if you look at when the tires lockup on the car, its a pretty good slide. you cant get your car to slide that sideways at 35mph. whats funny is the car never even looks like it comes close to the other car in front. like the guy is just slamming on the brakes for fun or something.

    people suck

What I don't get, aside from the obvious stupid behavior, is why was the motorcycle rider running a video camera in the first place? And after the crash, the camera would be about the last thing on my mind, other than wondering how it would look buried in the guy's face that caused the wreck.

Probably just testing out a helmet cam. All the rage these days you know.
I thought the girl was riding in a perfectly safe manner and some whacko obviously locks up his brakes and spins out like some kind of retard on a busy three lane highway.
The camera I don't think conveys just how crowded that road was or how close the car was that spun out....I see no way she could have avoided a collision of some sort.

It's not like she was holding the camera with her hand...it was attached to her helmet.

I think was was riding in a mostly safe manner, however the car gave her sufficient warning that there was a problem and she was far enough away she could have stopped. A modern sportbike can stop in some amazingly short distances, and as soon as the car locked up it's brakes she should have been on hers hard instead she rides right up to the and into the accident. Maybe she panacked and forgot to hit her brakes, maybe she was trying to go around it and forgot the first rule of accident avoidance which is never try to go around in front of a moving out of control vehicle. Whatever the reasons, I think she made some bad judgement calls in avoiding the situation (legally it still looks like there fault).

While I agree that she could have probably outbraked the situation, only she had the luxury of knowing what was in her mirrors. Anchoring the brakes in a congested traffic situation is an invite for a hood ornament up your ass. Who would normally assume that brake lights in a lane next to you will result in them blocking both their and your lanes? When I first saw the movie my imagined reaction was basically what she did. Roll off the throttle, kiss the brakes and wait for the car to get itself sorted out. I've been in similar situations a few times with cars screeching to a stop, but they've stayed in their own lanes. By the time the car goes sideways and blocks both lanes, there was no way out short of laying it down. If you go to her website you'll see that she's a long time racer/rider as well as a racing/riding instructor. There were only 2 seconds from the time the car's brake lights first came on until impact. I believe she did the best she could with what she had for options.

Looks to me like the car realized he was in the wrong lane (it looked like a turning lane) and going a bit fast so paniced and locked the brakes up to avoid hitting the car in front and possibly thinking he could avoid the bike as well. Don't it did happen pretty fast and unless she was fairly focused on that the periferies she could easily have missed that he locked them up untill it was too late to out brake him. I can envision looking around to see where the noise was coming from and then hitting the brakes cuz if it was from behind I wouldn't be hitting the brakes. Keep the tape and take it to court if needed because I really think the insurance co's would say it was the car driver's fault on all counts. Driving too fast (otherwise he wouldn't have had to lock up the brakes) not staying in his lane, probably following too closely, not to mention being a jerk for the comment. Pretty good video set up though, it took the crash, recorded everything pretty good and still ran afterward.
