Looks like a riot! I *might* even have the 920 wired by then! Good to have a goal.....
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices, but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence and fulfills the duty to express the results of his thought in clear form.

Well, the 4th annual SFRC Alleysweeper Urban Enduro was a huge event due to the growing word of mouth and excellent weather. About 250 bikes showed up to explore approximately 30 miles of Portland's back alleys and unimproved right-of-way roads. The designated route started in SE Portland and finished at the North end of town.

Local and out of state friends came armed with a variety of minis

While mid-sized dual sports were the norm, apparently the term "Urban Enduro Bike" can mean a lot of different things to different people.

With so many bikes entering the first alley there was a big traffic jam that took a bit to sort out....

..but once things got rolling, everyone was giggling in their helmets.

A jump had been strategicly placed by the organisers in one of the alleys....

..and was hugely popular with some folks circling the block for another go.

About 20-30 minutes in to the ride 5 or 6 police cars showed up.
It seems that some alley neighbor folks believe that the alleyways ajoining their property are in fact part of their property, and that we were trespassing and being a general nuisance enough to warrant a 911 emergency call.

The nice officers kindly informed the 911 callers that we were not breaking any laws simply by riding in the alleyways, and politely encouraged them to please not call again. The officers were very polite and understanding with a good sense of humor toward our tongue in cheek activities. One of the officers even reunited with a couple of old high-school friends who were out enjoying the ride.

A couple of hours and many alleys later a lunch break was scheduled at where else? The Alleyway Pub.

Many stories of shovel and broom waving <s>idiots</s> alley neighbors and generally pissed off folks were shared.

After much food and beverages were consumed, it was back to the alleys.

After another couple hours of Urban Enduro fun in North Portland alleys and along the railroad tracks next to the Willamette river, we ended the ride with an after party at the Portway Tavern.

After reliving the event for an hour or two we said our good-byes. As our tribe of ten or so minis made our way back home we couldn't resist visiting a few more alleys to smile and wave our front wheels at our new <s>idiot</s> alley neighbor friends.

Found this video posted by another rider.

Thanks to the SFRC for another great ride. Looking forward to Alleysweeper #5.

What a great idea. Couldn't be done here in Phoenix, no way. Someone'd get shot or attacked by a pit bull set to "chew".

I was born and raised in Eugene, and lived in Portland for awhile. It was always so laid back. The whole "call the cops" and "shovel and broom waving" sound so fucking uptight, not the norm. I hope they were isolated incidents. Apparently they were not deterrents to the fun.
I believe we have run out of trolls.

Yep, isolated for sure. While many neighbor folks just stared and shook their heads in bewilderment at 200+ bikes going up and down their alleyways, there were many more laughing, waving hello, and giving the thumbs up.
