    Newb from merica

Hi all. My name is Titus and I'm new to this board. I'm not new to bikes. My first bike was a 2002 GSXR 600. When I joined the military in 08 I had to sell my bike and have been sad ever since. Last week I came upon a deal for a 79 CB 750 running for $400. So I jumped on it with plans to build a cafe racer. I'm not looking to build a traditional bike. I plan to mix old with new and make it my own. I'm currently on TDY so I'll be more of a lurker for now trying to get all the info I need to build this bike. I just thought I'd introduce my self. I'll post some pics once I get home and have some time.
    I WIN!!

TDY = temporary duty assignment. Titus may be in some outpost in someplace like Uzbeki-beki-bekistan, with minimal access to the web.

Yeah, please don't make your bike your own. Somehow that always seems to translate into no fenders, short shocks, and weird bodywork.

That sux. Maybe we can send him some porn while he is stuck in some god forsaken place without internet. They still allow porn in the military, right?

Wow. Probably the least friendly group I've met so far. Way to rep the community. Geeto I should have known you'd be the first one to make a dick comment. Ive read enough on here to see that one coming from a mile away. BTW the bread was wheat. As for "making it my own" I'm mostly thinking of suspension updates while keeping the classic styling. I like the classic cafe look but still want that modern suspension.

Steve is right, I'm on a temp assignment. I'm in the air force. And the navy are the ones with gay porn.

I think we are a very friendly group. Notice the number of comments that you got on your first post. If we weren't friendly, you would have gotten nothing.
Serious question, how does updating the suspension while keeping the classic styling, make it your own? That has been done since the beginnings of club racing. Back in the day it was sticking Norton roadholder forks on anything headed for the track. Then it became Ceriani forks on race bikes. Then it was putting better quality shocks on like Girling or Marzochi. Now it is upgrading to Ohlins for racing. Check the vintage race bikes and you see forks from VTR250s on CB350s and CBR600 on FT500 and GSXR forks on everything else (conventional if they want to "keep the classic styling" and USD if they want the "modern" look). Nothing wrong with it, I stick new forks on most of mybikes or upgrade the internals if I keep the stockers, but it isn't "making it my own", it is making it work.

    Ken
