Help a beginner out with a new bike purchase

    Hey guys,

I am new to cafe racers, I know, I know, this is my first post and I am already asking help, But if I buy this bike I am sure this site will become a huge time dump for me.
I am looking at this cb 750. The guy wants $3500 for it and I dont really have much bike experience. I rode it today and it seemed fine. Brakes, clutch, steering, engine, suspension seemed good, but as I said I dont know much so here is the listing
and I was hoping to pick your much more experienced brains for thoughts.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the help in advance

    Meh.

Here are some of the "issues"
-cheap tires tell me it was built to resell
-the 500 since build confirms this
-bet it runs like shit with those garbage pods. Do you know enough to know a well running engine?
-zero front fender tells me it was built by a bandwagon jumping d bag. Needs a brace/fender
-poorly fitting clubmans is another fail.
-clubmans with stock pegs is extra fail.

over all it ticks all the hipster moron buttons.

im not going to ask the questions to get the info out of you to help you get to the fit bike....
try searching one of the million newbie threads

thanks for the info, this type of honesty is exactly what I need. How do you feel about the price for the product? is it something worth buying and then switching stuff out or am I better off just starting with a fresh bike.
I did search some of the threads before I posted this, but the listing is ending on sunday and if I were to buy it I would need to make an offer before then so I was kind of in a time crunch, I apologize for that.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, I will answer as best I can.

    Thanks

Why spend good money on a crap bike just to change it?
its a Honda so it's not rare or hard to find.

do you want to ride a bike or play dress up and look at pictures of it on the Internet?
i assume you are new to bikes in general?
i also assume you are new to wrenching?
    am I wrong?

what are your actual goals by buying a bike?

willing to bet a "modern" bonneville is more what you should buy

totally agree with the crap bike statement, the bottom line is that between school and the army I have very little time to work on them so I thought if I could buy a bike that is ready to go, obviously your opinion is that this is not the bike to do it with. I appreciate that.
Don't want to play dress up, I really like the cafe racer style much more than the modern sportbike.
new to both bikes and wrenching bikes.

You are trying to justify that bike. Stuck on it. Tunnel vision. Take the advice and pass. Much more to be had for same or slightly more money

I am totally willing to pass. If that is the general consensus I have no problem doing so.
    Thanks.

    2004 Triumph Bonneville Black
    MOTO GUZZI T3 1978 - RUNS PERFECT
    1974 Honda cb750
    Kawasaki W650

    All better.
sure they are more money, but worth it.
what do you have right now in the piggy bank to spend on a bike?
get all ideas about cafe racing, making it your own and the rest of the style bullshit.

goal should be to get a solid bike and keep it on the road for a period of time.
dont focus on "getting a deal" and how cheap you can get something.
tey more of a dollars per mile concept...
