    Dirty ignition points?

The bike had a Boyer electronic ignition fitted some time ago.
I've had a look on the Boyer website. The coils checked out okay, so most likely timing plate or control box.

Electronic ignition...I have never had much faith in them...had Boyer ignitions fail right out of the box. But if the old ignition system is no longer there, might as well do what you have to do.

You're right not to have any faith in them. I replaced the points on a XS750 a few months ago with a Newtronic ignition. I had to send it back twice before I got one that wasn't faulty.

Finally figured out why there is no spark, one of the coil terminals was earthing against the frame.
Gave the bike a quick service today changed the engine, and gearbox oil, new plugs, and air filters. Cut out a new front number plate
    It starts, and runs well.

Glad you've got it running! Nice when it turns out to be something simple. Good looking pedestrian slicer...I did a double take; the reflections on the fender make it look like mahogany!
