    Cafe Racer TV BS

So years ago when Cafe Racer tv came out I gave it a chance but stopped watching almost instantly bc of how hipster stupid it was. Yesterday I had a weak moment and watched an episode. They were doing a drag test to determine the "fastest" factory cafe style bike currently on the market.

    I believe the comparisons were:

    Thruxton
    Ducati Super Classic 1000
    Speed Triple 1000
Harley Something (Didnt see the first couple bikes)
    Guzzi v7 Cafe

In the end they determined the Triple and ducati were the fasted and the Guzzi was last. ummm...DUH??? They compared the 1/4 speeds of two 1000cc+ bikes with that of a 750! Couldn't be bothered to go grab a comparable Griso or something to make it a fair fight???

The whole notion of the comparison was just stupid but that part really annoyed me. Turned the show off and it wont be back on my tv...

so that episode had a companion article in the magazine that came out first. Honestly it isn't any better but it is more palatable to read it than to watch it because basically it was a grasping at straws where they had a rider, and a track, and just grabbed whatever bikes they could get their hands on. I believe you left out the SR500 they tested as well which couldn't be more out of place in that pack if you painted it purple and bolted on wings.

TO be honest, it was nice taking a bunch of bikes and watching some pros drag the crap out of them and if you don't invest thought into the fact that cafe racer magazine and it's associated TV show is to moto journalism what sand paper is to toilet paper then it's just mindless fun.

I must have missed the SR500. Watching the pros drag street bikes was pretty interesting. Should have turned the volume off. I own a guzzi breva 750 so it hurt more watching them put the v7 bike in last. Its a great motor. The 1100's would have put up a good fight with the ducati at least. Nothing was going to touch the triple.

I think it was an SR400....and they had to take a commercial break at some point during its 1/4 mile run......

My breva 750 is faster than my cb350...
I think I've decided that if I want true fast stuff, I'll go with technology that is geared toward it.
If I want quicker than most cars on the road, the 750 is plenty, and will likely outlast a lot of the
Bikes that are faster, just through over engineered robust internals. I'm sure I could make it faster, but
I'd spend less money buying an older cbr600 or some other pile that has been "street fightered" the Ichiban Moto way.

A while back I was interested in getting a V7. Then I started looking into go fast parts for it. What I found was, the factory had already done most of the mods over the years and even a race version with all the tricks didn't make as much power as my stock 796 Hypermotard. To paraphrase one Guzzi specialist, the best way to make a V7 faster is to sell it and buy a different bike.

I ended up buying a Monster 1200S. Yeah, I may have over-compensated a bit there...

You are right, desmoDog, buying another bike is pretty much the way to go, although I would think something like higher ratio rockers, fully balancing all the internals, head porting, and perhaps a big bore kit could make for a quicker bike, but
I doubt you can do much with it, really, and who's to say it would run more than a week with those mods anyway?
I really think it would be cheaper and easier to make my 350 faster than the v7 is now, than to make go fast happen with that thing. But it doesn't make me like the v7 any less. It's a great bike, just not at all fast by today's standards.
The only thing I really wish mine had was a 6th gear, and the '15 v7 has it.

But the 6th gear on the '15 is the same ratio as 5th gear on the previous model......

All street fighters are "street fightered" in a similar way... anyone have a spare CBR I can personalize ?
