    aluminum brake discs

    So I came across these:

    Custom made Aluminum Front Disc Rotor Kawasaki Z1A Z1B KZ900 KZ1000 1973-80

Are there any down sides to running aluminum discs on the street? Obviously there'd be a large reduction in unsprung weight... but I feel like the wear qualities of the aluminum don't make it worth it.

anyone have any knowledge or experience?

They'd need to be plasma coated to last more then two hard stops. Drag race use only IMHO

Harry Hunt had them for sale way back when. They were plasma sprayed and expensive for the time. Erik Buell was also selling some that were I believe aluminum laminated to stainless on the wear surface. That was before he started making street bikes.
