Building a cafe racer? ('82 Honda)

Looking to turn an ugly old 1982 Honda CB750 into a cafe racer style.

I'm not the greatest in the shop, but have people who can help.
However, lengthening a gas tank or building a lengthened seat is not something I have the skills to do.

Is there a place I can purchase these things?

Any ideas from people who've done a similar build?

The first thing I'll do is strip the bike down of all the junk (luggage rack, windshield, engine cage, etc). And aside from doing the handlebars I'm near clueless as to where to start.

    Jyn, welcome. As you'll probably hear, the first order of business is to get the bike running and reliable. After you've ensured that, performance and appearance mods can be done at whatever pace you can afford. But I'd recommend doing it a little bit at a time. As you get into it and do some searching through the links etc, you'll probably find the things that you want. Here are a couple links to get you started;

Check out the links on the header too.
    Good luck.

I agree with getting the bike running the best it can, and then worry about how it looks/sounds/etc..Carpy over at http://www.cb750cafe.com has a great site to look at lots of bikes for ideas, and he sells parts as well (not cheap).

That site deals with SOHC 750s more or less, you have a DOHC. For getting it running right I suggest going to www.cb1100f.net or www.cb900c.com for getting your bike running right. Till then heres my 1980 CB750, right now shes apart but this is how she was up to a 2 months ago

    It's a K.

And the bike actually runs great.

The first time I looked at it/rode it was last winter. Dead winter, hadn't been started in 2 months & it started up on the first turn.

I already have a sport bike - picked this thing up from a friend & it isn't pretty. I do, however, like what the guy at cb750cafe has done with them. Which is why I'm wanting to take this project on.

I'm still looking to get some input on what all to do.

Looks a lot like mine ( in the beginning )

I'm hoping to go with an extended tank & the extended cafe seat.
However, the only tank that I could find was nearly $500. The seat is %160

Get used to "high" prices. Think about what it would take for you to build the tank or seat you want. Somebody else has done it, got it right, and is selling the part, and in most cases probably not making a living at it. The only alternative is to do it yourself, which is cool, but in the end you'll spend as much or more...
