    Calling Joe C

    Joe,

Lefty 337 wants to see some photos of the CB550 I have. You posted some for me back in early winter, but they are no longer in the thread. Would you happen to still have them and be able to post them in the "bio" thread?

    Thanks,
    JackC

Wow, this is amazing. Thank everyone for puting out such an effort.

Since this is becoming a real possibility, can anybody compare a cb550 to a cb750? or a shadow 500 for that matter? All I've really ridden is the bike I have now and don't have much to compare to.

As far as getting the bike, I can talk to my uncle about borrowing his jeep and a trailer and heading up. For now I need to figure out if it's worth holding out for a 750 or if a 550 will do everything I want it to?

For instance, (not that I speed but if I'm going 75-80 mph on the highway, will there be anywhere to go from there? I'd like to be able to hit a ton from time to time. I don't see much reason to go any faster though since it will be a commuter, not a racer. I've had the shadow to 80, but it's a bit of an effort to keep it there comfortably.

Any and all advice is appreciated. And again, thanks for the grand welcome.

    Lefty,

My advice is that if you want a 750, wait and get one. If you are not happy with the 550 you will kick yourself in the butt everyday.

While I would love to sell you the bike, I would not want you to put a bunch of money (which you will have to do) in it, then not like it.
Of course, you are not going to find much else for $200, and if you got it started you could flip it for $4-500 easy.

That said I have a Harley Sportster 883 and a Honda CB360, and I prefer to ride the 360. I don't do interstates on a bike and the Honda screams right along at 70, with more on tap. I expect the 550 would be better.

I am going on vacation in Maine early Tuesday morning for a week, with no internet. I will be around this weekend.

I am considering the cb550. For $200 bucks I'm not sure that I can pass it up. I won't be able to get up there this weekend anyway, so let me know when you get back and I will let you know. If we could find those pictures it would make the decision easier

Like you said, worst comes to worst, I will clean the carbs, change fluids and plugs, clean the points and see what comes of it. If I can get it started, take it for a spin and if I don't like it, I'll sell it.

    That's the thought anyway.

No! No! Go away! We're all full here!

Just kidding - but this weekend will be nuts with 2 Bushes and one Putin in town followed by all their protesters. At least it's not 100,000 screaming NASCAR fans in RV's!
