keep the tach. it provides a lot of good information about how the engines performing. and for the street, at least with a tach, you can calculate an approximate speed in a given high gear.

Even if you don't mount it up on the top of the clamp (or anywhere else you can see) you should have an odometer somewhere on the bike.

I know with cb750s, certain things start to go at certain mileages so I know to watch out for them.

+1 on keeping the tach, but mostly because my ear thinks the bike is screaming readline when the reality is I am probably only at 5K rpm. One of the neater tricks I have seen is that guys running only tachs on the street will make a mark on the tach at what rpms 55mph is in top gear, that way they know where to be to drop to the legal limit should they run into a speed trap.

Classic cafe set up is a bicycle speedometer and a tach. The bike speedo can be put someone where its not to noticable, so really the only thing you see is a tach, I have been doing this for years with Chops as well cafe/rat rods.

well the tach was broken when i got the bike. just the other day the speedo cable which also controls the odometer snapped, so rather than just run w/ two broken clocks i took them both right off. i will likely get some electric guages. i found a mechanical to electrical speedometer adapter. but right now i kind of like not having them.

be aware, what ever state you are in may require them in order for your bike to be inspected.

That may be a neat little alternative. My buddy did this to his race bike so he can dominate some peeps.

    He found it at cyclexchange.net
