    'biker' bars

i went to a 'biker' bar in dc last night. i won't say the name, but i'd always seen it and the assortment bikes usually parked outside. well some friends of mine had an album listening party there (hiphop/reggae/dub) but that was just upstairs. i guess downstairs is where the regulars hang out...pool table, loud punk, everyone had tattoos, etc.

the place is frequented by both motorcyclists and bicycle messengers, which is why i was always kinda skeptical, being im not too familiar and i know there is a whole (counter)subculture of messengers. i always rode dualsports and these guys all have bmws and nortons, with a couple of ratty hondas thrown in. the spot is like a dive, at least in appearance. the other dives in the neighborhood are just that, and i like them. this one just seemed gimmicky for some reason (maybe it's the motorcycle hanging in the front window?). it was cool tho, going back and forth between the music types and talking to different folks than i regularly hang out with. i can say though that most ppl there were more reserved than the usual places i chill in. i've had a better time in harley bars and backwater hole-in-the-wall redneck gumbo parlors; i would have thought an urban spot with similar clientele would be the same way but it wasn't.

there's no point to this, other than to ask about your experiences in these types of places. i've had a better time in harley bars and backwater hole-in-the-wall redneck gumbo parlors; i would have thought an urban spot with similar clientele would be the same way but it wasn't.

if you ever have the chance, go to zeitgeist in sf. everyone who is anyone whos been to sf and is into bikes of the peddle type or motorized knows it. its been there for years and ive had people walk into the shop and see the plate frame and ask about it. its legendary.

i was at one of the local spots here tonight waiting for some friends from out of town. its called peters inn. its one of the local biker haunts. mostly not harleys. pretty much anything else goes though. we have that and a place called mums for the euro/jap/brit crowd. peters has a sub to classic bike, and at the bar you can always sit and read the newest issue. that and other bike rags. thay have a fantastic bar and the food is excellent. i mean great. mums has a pool table and local bands once a week. the beer is cheap and the girls behind the bar dont take any crap. a real south baltimore bar. at times you can walk in and see 20 helmets lined up ont he staircase to the second floor and a list of maotorcycle makes outside. a pretty neat dive. then miss irenes has a decent biker draw. and its a real throw back to what baltimore used to be about. pool table, bar rail, and booze. a real single purpose kind of place.

then there is always the "handle bar" thats whats its really called. on rt 40. a harley bar. the kind of place you wouldnt be let into the parking lot if you werent riding one. ive never been there. there is also a bar some place around here where people parade thier shit back and forth all day. its supposed to be quite the show. but ive never been interested enough to see what its really all about.

We (JD, Aaron, and I) have a friend that lives in SF. He's told me about Zeitgeist. Sounds like a pretty rad place.
