that is 70 mph in the 1/8th mile that is about a 14.90 et for the 1/4. Not fast but not super slow either. Me thinks this bike was built more for a class than all out speed as electric motors have more potential than gasoline engines for an all out rip down the dragstip.

if you are really interested in eelctric bikes there are plenty that race in this organization:

and for those who doubt the potential of an electric motor in motorcycle drag racing here is a 7.8 second pass at 174mph: http://www.killacycle.com/

There's a dude in Portland who converted an '86 VFR to electric. Did a pretty nice job, I thought, as much as it's sort of a shame to hack up a clean '86 like that..

here is the electric derbi GPR:

    http://thekneeslider.com/archives/20...-derbi-gpr-50/

and there is this which may actually count as the first electric cafe racer:

    http://thenewcaferacersociety.blogsp...otorcycle.html

the problem with using an older bike, like the ones traditionally associated with cafe racers, is that they are heavy. Even without the engine the frames and suspension are heavy. 1980s bikes, espically late 80's bikes weigh considerably less and are actually cheaper these days, plus the wishbone frame arrangement makes for a better motor/battery layout than the cradle frame.

While it is cheap to build a round town once a day electric motorcycle, to build a useful one can get expensive. Cheap ones use traditional led acid batteries and have ranges in the neighborhood of 40 miles and recharge times of 6-12 hours. If you want to spend the money there are plenty of DIY lithium battery packs like the a123 systems series 32 packs, but they cost.
