just because it "turns over" -it wasnt a good idea to get that. a stock 850 is a nice bike (not a performance bike). but that has got to much wrong. as a parts bike maybe.looking at the engine my guess is it doesnt have low miles. exhaust? side panels? if it has a title it might be worth $100-200. sorry if im not much help. but you dont have much
I like my shocks like I like my women. Cheap and Chinese.

here is what you do....buy an xr style tracker seat, a real pair of rear shocks, and give it a tune up with in an inch of it's life. Then list it on CL and sell it to the first person dumb enough to give you money for it.

Then take that money (and some more) and buy a solid platform for a real vintage performance racing machine. Prefferably something british or european or at least japanese with a real aftermarket. Then start building a racer.

^^^^ this. A motorbike isn't a fashion icon, not inherently. It's not a pair of fashionably ripped jeans, or a skin tight onesy, it's a machine who's origins lie in racing and that has a 100 years of improvement behind it. Yes you can look cool whilst riding it but that isn't the purpose of a bike.

Yes, you're your own unique little snow flake and like all the other unique little snowflakes you're well within your right to bastardise a usable machine, but the in same breath we're within our rights to criticise and deride something that goes against the ethos of this forum. This isn't DTT and it isn't pipe burn, here people work to improve their bikes, not dress them up like a Barbie.

I was just encouraging the guy, he has a gs850 not the first pick for a racer, But he has it. When in propper order it is a reliable bike. I suggested the seat and hoop idea because his bike frame has been hacked by the previous owners. It doesn't matter what he does to the bike it will only get better from the picture show.

lets see some track day pictures on your cafe racers? part of improving the performance/ handlling of these old bike makes them look super, cool not like barbie or snow flakes.
