It has turned into one of the most prestigious classic/historic/vintage events in the world and now draws ex MotoGp and World Superbike contenders. That can't be cheap for anyone, but makes for a great event.
At least we no longer have to sweep up the sheep manure before we get to go racing. The Island was just a strip of asphalt in a field by the sea for many years....
it's not overly flat, but it is in the middle of a paddock.
my point was, if you had been, the advent of the harris xr69 replica frame with some sort of engine alluding to what was available "back in the day", which currently for the uk team means xjr1300, has totally taken over the event. if you want to win the international challenge that's what you have. they're fast - motogp is 1.28, wsbk 1.30, these things 1.35.
so yes, just another xr clone is what it is. not as blatant as the irving vinvent thing, but still a bit of a stretch.
yeah, they're fast. and a period ish twin shock katana can't keep up.
I’ve been, three times!
In fact I was part of the team who set this up back in 2005!
PI is one of the best circuits in the world, short but fun.
I’ve raced Harris’, Kawasaki’s, Yamaha’s, etc.
In recent years the whole event has become very much more professional and expensive, there is NO start money, they will pay to ship your bikes but the rest is down to you.
The top UK guys are all on XR clone Yamaha’s. There is a money shortage for 2019 but that may level the playing field again.
Here we go!
At the track this weekend, too.
Trying to not suck...
