    XS650 College Project (56K Beware)

OK so about 2 years ago I got my first motorcycle. It was a 1979 Yamaha XS650. This is what it looked like the day after I brought it home.

    View from the seat

I got it and it ran pretty well. I rode it around the neighborhood a bit then took the MSF course and got my license. I changed a couple parts near the beginning of summer and road the crap out of the bike. Here is what she looked like during that summer.

and again a view from the seat.

After this summer I got a set of 34mm Mikuni Round Slides which really opened it up and made it much better on the highway. During that winter I tore into it to look about a couple problems. It then went a couple different directions as I tried to work on my dad's bike as well.

Now I have a direction for the bike and have really started to look into all the areas that I need. Next will just be buying the parts and creating the monster I want. Here is a picture that is basically my inspiration.

It's getting late tonight. I'll update this thread tomorrow with more information and possibly some photos of the parts I have so far.

1940 Chevy Special Deluxe. Super fun car but now that college has come I just feel like it gets neglected. Poor car.

Great pic of that XS race bike. I tried to convince my friend with a 650 similar to yours that he should use that one for inspiration as well, but instead he spraybombed the whole thing flat black and gloss red. Good luck with the rest of yr build.

Ok so more about the project. I'm kicking the engine out to 750cc with a set of LA sleeves and Venolia pistons. While I'm tearing into the engine I am also replacing the rods with Carrillo rods and rephasing the crank using Crank Works. The engine will be feed by Dellorto carbs.

I already have gold valve emulators and new fork springs from Race Tech for the front suspension. The rear is either going to be Works or YSS shocks haven't really decided. The fiberglass is still up in the air as well. The seat is pretty easy to find but the tank has been a search but I think I have found the perfect one.

I'll keep updating this and get some pictures up tomorrow.
