    Honda CB550 Cafe Racer Project

Hi all, I found the site whilst searching for ideas and inspiration for my 1st Cafe Racer project.

Its a 1977 CB550 F2 Supersport, its a barn find and quite frankly its a bag of shite (for now)

I have started stripping the bike down, all thats left is the front end and motor, I wanted to try and start the bike before stripping the engine. (is it worth it??)

I have already begun to strip the carbs completely and rebuild along with treating them to an ultrasonic bath, when it arrives.

I will, for those interested keep you updated as much as I can, I have set up a blog for my own record and for anyone interested in following the build. www.acaferacerisborn.wordpress.com

Any help, advice, tips and tricks would be more than welcome!

well you should have asked before you stripped it down because here the most common advise is not to strip the bike before you have fixed all mechanical issues one by one.

Didn't check the link - post pics here please.

    Thanks for the reply

    The bike electrics, engine etc is still on the bike, the only things stripped at present are;

    rear wheel
    swing arm
    rear shocks
    rear fender
    battery box
    air filter box
    tank
    seat
    down pipes (rotten)

    carbs are off to clean

I intended to put the carbs back on and try and get it started although some of the wiring looks a bit dodgy

any advice on how to get the bike started? procedure, what to look/check for baring in mind it hasn't been started for 15 years, there is good compression

thats not a 77 seat. thats not a stock pipe either for a ss. tank looks like it could be a 77. the seat sitting behind the bike indoors looks like a 77 seat. the 77 and 78 seats were different than any other year because of the shape of the tank. the 77 was flat. the 78 had a little upstep.

the ignition switches are notorious issues with these. aftermarket are junk. and i have to go back and look, but i dont think those are 77 carbs.

The seat indoors is the same seat. I am aware the exhaust isn't stock and was replaced at some point in its life as is maybe the seat.

    Carbs are the '77 f2 S/S http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550f2-s...7.html#results

As is the bike according to the VIN
