Agreed. But our genius says he's not running tubes so I guess we'll all just have to hang onto the edge our seats until he reveals his awesome wizardry....

The Yamaha xs750 rims also went through a tube to tubeless conversion in the late 70's.

I have examples of both and it is confirmed by other owners that the tubeless rims do not have that bead retention rim on the inner part of the bead area.
Yes, I agree it is important for safety. If your tire looses pressure, chances are good it'll remain on the rim. If it the tire drops into the drop center you have complete collapse and your tire can come off the rim and cause some serious damage and/or death.

Seems they were more concerned with holding pressure rather than the retention concerns in the early years of these wheels.

    Any progress on the bike?
Serious question, since your attitude and claims of stuff that some of us find incredulous is admittedly trolling, are you actually fixing up this bike, or just messing with people?

I, for one, would genuinely enjoy seeing the improvements that can be done to a bike like this, especially on an easy budget. Most of the bikes I end up finding for extremely cheap or free happen to be the less desirable cruiser counterparts of what were pretty quick 70's Japanese bikes.
I've usually just gotten them running and safe to ride, then sold on to people who either don't know the difference or don't have a preference. It would be cool to see one actually be better than it was stock.

So what's the problem with the top end? Rings or valves?

What are the symptoms that make you think your piston rings are stuck?
Seized engine, Low compression, Gasoline showing up in your engine oil, Blue smoke out the exhaust or Increased crankcase pressure.
