I've always hated the looks of those kind of seats, but they're usually pretty comfortable. That looks like a good first bike for someone under 200lbs to put a buttload of miles on seeing the country.
It ain't easy bein' fat and greasy.

on my GS750E I went with progressive shocks and springs, super-bike bars, and good tires (plus a laundry list of other things). That combination makes the GS a ton of fun to ride. You should keep in mind that the bike is the "L" cruiser model, so it will be a lot of work to make it something it's not.

Given the title of this thread, I agree with the direction of Hooligan, however one would care to define it. Trying to force the GS550L into a cafe racer would be a lot of effort. But I think sticking a tracker style seat on this and changing wheels to 18" front and rear with the bars he just put on there would be a great start along with some decent, slightly longer shocks and do the forks. I think that era GS550 had solid mount fairly low footpegs, so a set of rearsets/ midsets would probably help, too. All in all it looks like it could be a really fun bike. Good luck and keep us updated.

Those bars are a nice choice.......they make it look hooligan cool already.

Those little 550s will run for years and a 100,000 miles with oil changes and basic maintenance.

I've always loved Suzuki in line 4s.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but you're throwing a bunch of parts at a bike you haven't heard running?
