    bike won't turn over, WTF?!?!?!?!

Okay, I brought my bike (cl350) home last week after having it at a shop for months. Before we brought it back here it ran like a champ, started on the first kick every time. Thing is, we were supplying power through a portable jumpstarter and never actually turned the bike over with power from the battery itself.

Now the bike is in the garage and I've hooked the battery up to a charger, and juiced it up to full power. I hook it up to the bike, the lights come on. blinkers, horn, brakelight etc.

But the bike won't turn over.

After five minutes or so of having the battery hooked up, the lights gradually begin to dim, the blinkers don't blink, the horn sounds weak. -I'm assuming this is perfectly normal, without the engine running the charging system isn't working...

A little bit more information: points, plug gaps, timing all set by a proffessional mechanic -as I said the bike ran like a champ a week ago.

I have the petcocks turned to "on", I'm getting fuel.

Carbs are brand new Mikunis, clogged jets are not an issue.

Pulled the right hand plug, rested it against the cooling fins as I kicked it over. Got spark.

Electric starter removed, bike is kick only.

So, I'm thinking that the battery is either not charging fully or is too weak of a battery to begin with.

I know little to nothing about batteries, cold cranking amps, etc.
Is it possible that this battery doesn't have the balls to supply enough power for a kickstart?

it's an XTREME 12v AGM permaseal maintenance free battery,12V4Ah
purchased at Batteries Plus -I think EXTREME is their store brand.

Another distinct possibility is that the battery was not stored properly. I bought it probably six months ago, knowing I wasn't ready for it yet but I wanted to make sure that the seat cowl and frame would work around it.

More than once I was at the shop and saw it sitting on the concrete floor.

So, does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to spend any more money before I know that
    A) the current battery is the problem, and
    B) the new battery is the one I need

Thanks in advance for any insight.

You did try kickstart to make sure it will turn over?

Are you trying to start it with the starter button?

    Anyway, charge the battery.

Attach your multimeter to the battery. What's it read?

Turn on the key. What's it read?

Hit the starter button. What's it read?

If any of those are below 11.4 or so, it aint gonna start with a starter button, or not at all, and isn't going to run well.

That means you need a new battery.

PJ, yes I kicked it over at the shop, with portable power hooked up. Started first kick. At home, not so much.

Corey, jump the solenoid? Do elaborate. At the risk of sounding like a COMPLETE jackass, can I jumpstart my bike's battery with my car, same as I would another car? ([:I])

mlinder, I removed the electric starter. I need to pick up a new multimeter. I let the battery corrode in the last one and it's fubared.

That concrete floor thing that's got you worried? That's an old wives tale. Doesn't affect the battery at all.

I'm confused about the not turning over part. You mentioned that you don't have an electric starter anymore. Are you saying that it won't start by the kickstarter or it won't turn over with the kick starter?

And best guess is that having that battery sit for 6 months has drained it and it needs to be recharged fully. But pick up a multimeter. Ten bucks at Sears. And don't charge it with your 10 amp car battery charger.

Sorry about the confusion. Won't START with kickstarter, but yes the engine will turn over.

Craig, the charger is a 2, 6 and 10 amp charger. I've been using the 2 amp setting...

Oh, and I hooked the battery up to the charger today after I snapped those pictures. Now the charger is giving me some sort of FAULT message, which didn't happen before.

dude, 4Ah? that's not a big battery to begin with. this one sounds like it's toast.

these bikes don't like to start with a marginal 14Ah, let alone a battery with less than 1/3 the capacity. Go to sears and get a new AGM battery - they're like 30 bucks.
