    Starter stuck

So the 360 has been sitting still for a few weeks so I went out to start it up and let the oil move and battery charge. After cranking for sometime it started up but the starter wouldn't disengage. I hit the ignition switch off and it still cranked. Pulled the key out and it still cranked. I finally had to disconnect the battery to make it stop cranking. I disconnected the starting wire from the controls, reconnected the battery and it automatically started cranking again. Why would it be stuck on? Is it something in the starter itself that I would have to take a look at or a short somewhere else? Still cranks without a key and the ignition swith off?

The starter solenoid is stuck. Smack it with a hammer on the side.

relay for sure is stuck on(engaged) but before you hook power back up.....diconnect one lead to the relay and ck that continuity breaks (opens)between the two main cables. try to tap on top of relay to release it but it may do it again due to corrosion, burnt contacts, bad spring, you may want to replace it as this could be a problem if you are out riding..

Thanks guys. The hammer trick worked for the time being but I am going to delve more deeply later on to find out what the actual cause of it was.
