gt750 on ebay, very narrow backplate

This is a discussion on gt750 on ebay, very narrow backplate within the Technical forums, part of the Caferacer.net Forums category; Just saw this, and i was worried to remove 6.25mm on each backplate on mine.     gt750 on ebay, very narrow backplate

    Just saw this,
    and i was worried to remove 6.25mm on each backplate on mine.

    Well I guess radially by the bigger od of the axle, axially by the forkleg!?

    Looks like the speedo side is ruined and has to be replaced. There appears to be no steel sleeve and no support left. You could weld up the center and machine it again, but why bother. That one is ready to be recycled.

    The backplates are scrap, and at 250$ its not free.
    They look more grinded than machined.

    I think that could be used as is with some clever spacer work. It would never be pretty. I would not use it on a street bike build that I cared about, but would use it on a race bike. It is not worth $250 to me, but I would throw $100 at it, but not a penny more.
