    1972 CB350 cafe handlebar help!!

    Just picked up a cb350 and am begin to tear off all of the unwanted parts. I am thinking about putting on a set off clubmans or clipons (if i can find some) . When i went to tear of the stock handlebars I find that the wires for the controls go through the handle bars. Whats an easy way to get them out of there. I know if i unscrew and disconnect the wires from their connections, i will never be able to figure out how to get them back together. I don't really need the blinker controls but would like to keep the kill switch and start buttons. Do I have to cut the wires and reconnect them? What a pain. My old RD's control wires where all on the outside.

    HELP!!!! haha


    PS i'm new. I cafed a rd awhile back but nothing crazy.
    PSS i really hate how expensive solo seats and rear sets are, where are the deals??

    Try the search function. This has been an ongoing discussion. There is even a current thread in the General section. The bottom line is this. Geeto thinks clubman bars are gay. Some of us agree with him some of the time and some of us don't some of the time. Yo will need to figure out what will work for you on your bike. Don't cheap out and consider all of your options.
    As far as getting your old controls off of your old bars, just work at it patiently and you will be able to pull the wires with the controls out of your old bars. Don't cut or unscrew your wires. After ou have them out, notch the controls and run the wires externally on your new bars like you did on your RD.

    Do a search. Just about every CB350 question has been asked and answered here.

    Haha i just signed up for this forum and after posting that, began to search...

    You all seem to have very vibrant personalities! hahah


    There is no way the blinker control box and the kill switch start control box is gunna fit through the bars and out. Are there male/female connections inside the bars that will permit me to pull and reconnect later? I am sorry, i'm having a hard time understanding.

    OK Rob,
    If you can't make the switch assemblies fit through those little oval openings in the bars maybe you can pull the wires out the other direction. The wires stay attached to the switches and pull out of the bars. The free ends of the wires with the bullet connectors will enter the center of the bars and as you keep pulling they will come out the little oval holes that were under the switch gear and you will have them dangling in the wind ready for installation on the appropriate bar of your choice. Don't pick clubmans, Geeto thinks they are gay, and you might become guilty by association. If you are really gay, then that is your choice and I am ok with it.

    Speaking of gay, I just found out that a really good friend of mine and former roomate from college times is gay. I haven't been in touch with him for a while and come to find out he has had the same partner for 8 years. I mean we were racing buddies for years and I didn't have a clue. Maybe if I cared more about this stuff I could have figured it out. I dated his sister and everything. My wife says she suspected it when she met him at our wedding 10 years ago. Am I clueless or what?

    Well I haven't cut or disconnected anything yet. I am thinking about going from the headlight and labeling everything as I disconnect, then pull out a side at a time.

    I don;t want to be gay so I hope to find a set of nice clip-on's.

    I live in Minnesota and understand there is a dealer around her called "Omar's Racing" or something. I guess he has some but they seem kinda cheep looking.

    Who knows.

    Run whatever bars you like. The wiring uses bullet connectors which are located inside the headlight bucket. No disconnect at the control. Mark all your wires as you disconnect things. To re-route the wires you can just notch the control housing and run the wires externally. No problem.

    And another thing...

    Don't freak out too much when you start unplugging the control wires inside your headlight. They are of course all color coded for a reason. Just take your time. If you get screwed up when plugging everything back in, there's probably 3 dozen guys on this board who know 350 wire colors well enough to guide you.

    Also, when these guys say "notch" your controls, they mean use a Dremel tool, die grinder or a bastard file (hand file that looks like a rat tail) to cut about a 3/8" opening on the edge of the BOTTOM half of each control. The wires inside the control already should wrap around to the bottom, you're just making an "exit" for them out the side.

    Omar's Dirt track racing is a decent place to deal with. He tends to be a little overpriced but was for a while the only guy carrying raask and tarozzi rearsets.

    If you are going to put low bars on, go over to Omar's DTR and get a set of raask rearsets, it will save your back and prevent leg cramps. You could also make your own but I don't know how mechanically inclined you are.

    cb350s probably take clubmans better than most bikes so if you wanted to get a set I don't think it would make you totally gay (unless you don't get the rearsets to match - then it is flamming queen time), just occasionally hang out in truck stop bathrooms gay. <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

    Geetos Nemesis
    and no rearsets! (oh my!)
    Been so slow on getting them on the bike
    Ha Ha
    And I even ran my wires internally
    which is another favorite Rant for Mr Geet...
    (shh...I was hanging out at Matchless
    and actually heard Geeto say Clubmans
    and an unmentionable positive word in the same sentence-
    and I have a witness)

    I still want Geeto not to hate me
    so thats all that I can safely say

    I'm assembling a new bike right now that's going to start off with clubmans because I don't know if I'll end up changing the fork. I may keep them on out of spite now. run em.
