ignition problem cb750 w/ martek ignition

i've posted this in sohc forums too, but thought more help i can get the better.

this thing has been great since i've had it. but last week it started only running on cyl 2 and 3.
I have a martek ignition replacing the points. 1 and 4 get no spark. if i swap the blue and yellow wires on the martek the symptoms change to cyl 2 and 3 without spark. Now, to further complicate things if i depress the starter button on the right controls, cyl 1 and 4 will spark. if i let up they stop. sounds like a short or ground issue, but i don't know where to look.

can anyone offer something to test or try?

sounds like you have the 1&4 cylinder coil wired into the electric starter. I would check first under the tank and follow the coil leads back. The one area where all this comes together is the starter solenoid. Your martek isn't the problem because 1&4 get spark when you hit the starter.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.
