    5 hours for me...not bad.

But like most planned tracks...I'll believe it when I see it.

Looks like it'd be a fast course.

Hey, did you guys hear that Bridgehampton is thinking that reopening the racetrack might be a good idea?

I loved the old bridgehampton race course. I did a motorcycle TT there once and plenty of car stuff (lost my SCCA license there for bumping). The sad fact is that they will never reopen bridgehampton, the town doesn't want it, the residents don't want it, and the land is too valuable. They closed it under the concern that since it was on top of the water table the car and bike chemicals would leech into the water supply, so they rezoned it so a golf course could open there instead (when they found out what an enviornmental nightmare a golf course is that project halted too). If they were to reopen bridgehampton they town comission would have to come up with a pretty good excuse as to why they closed it in the first place.

Considering long island, once home to the oldest dirt track in the country (Freeport, exists no more), more than 11 drag strips, and three road courses now has only riverhead (stock cars and the demo derbys) and no real motorcycle or car racing venues, the future of racing on LI looks already nailed in it's coffin. Too bad too, LI used to be such a nice place.

There is talk of building a huge motorsports complex in brookhaven or thereabouts, with a full 1/4 mile and a 2 mile road course (designed to bring nascar to LI).

i was told by the manager of pocono international that bill france is building a nascar track in new york city metro, but there will be no road course! i didn't understand his reasoning then and don't understand it now, but he is in "the loop" so to speak.

I'm 5 miles from there right now. It's a golf course, no shit. The town don't want a track, they had trouble putting the golfers there with all the contaminates.......

Hmmm.. I heard the major reason why they didn't want the golf course was the contaminates it put in to the groundwater. Racing doesn't do much of that, it just makes noise a few weekends a year.
