I'm new to this, but, I have a 1978 honda cb400t. I'm trying to run it without a battery or key ignition, which leaves it as kick only. I am trying to use a compositor/battery eliminator. Has anyone been able to do this, or can give me some pointers on how to do this. The problem I'm having is that I'm reading 53 volts everywhere.

A CB400T has a CDI that needs a battery.

Don't waste your time and everyone else's trying to do it. Forget "battery delete" or capacitor nonsense, for this bike.

Forget it...Get yourself a small Lithium Ion battery specifically designed for motorcycle use.

Nope, won't ever work. The CB400T has a battery excited alternator, so it needs a battery to create the electromagnets so the alternator will generate voltage to energize the ignition system.

I'm a cheap prick I buy 36$ lawn tractor batteries for my BMW.

I recently bought a Shorai battery for a CB750 project, and TrialsRider isn't wrong about them being expensive (£190 with the charger). Fortunately I didn't pay for it.
They are impressive though, very small, and weigh next to nothing.

Ok guys I got a battery and I'm still having problems. I am getting too much power out of the reg/rec. could someone please tell me exactly what the red green and white wires go to. we have the three yellows going to the stator...thanks for the help

Find a pro MC electrician or a wiring diagram for your bike online before you toast things up playing around with the battery and the wiring.

MC electrics are not a "have a go show" that can be solved very well on a blog.
