I just bought a 1980 Honda CB750 and it has a couple problems. I need to know how to fix the shifting mechanism in the transmission because every time I try to shift I have to push/pull the shift lever in the opposite direction just a little before I can actually shift. Its like the lever wont spring back to place so I can make the shifting smooth. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

just like he said, remove the shift pedal and the sprocket cover, (only 4 bolts) and dig it out. otherwise the shaft could be bent from a crash and be binding in the cover. either way you got to git into it to see. easy fix either way.

Return spring could be broken, but, lever tends to flop around when that happens.
Easy fix, remove clutch cover and clutch
