A local secondhand shop has a 71 CB 450 they're taking bids on. No one seems to know much about it. It looks like it was reasonably clean before someone bomb-canned the bodywork with it installed. The only big part I see missing is the front caliper. What is the value of this bike. Is it a good platform for a cafe racer? Thanks

Ratty-5,

It makes an ideal cafe bike with very little work. You can get away with clubmans only on those and still get a soulful steed. Learn more about its condition before you bid. If it's sound mechanically, its got great potential. Find out why that caliper is missing, whether someone was trying to replace it or if the paper on the bike is lost and they were starting to part it out. Sans paper, you shouldn't be paying much more than half the value of a titled bike.

Let us know...

A non-running CB450 is worth at most $100, especially if its missing parts. A freakin million of these bikes were made.

Don't bother trying to replace the missing brake with a stock brake, they sucked. Upgrade the frontend with a later model honda frontend.

Thanks guys, great links. I'm going to try to find out more tomorrow. It just looked like to me with minimal modifications it would be a sweet looking bike. I'm as busy as I want to be with my 550 Suzuki but I've got a buddy whose wife is looking for a street bike and I thought it would be a good start for them.
