Hey whatsup So I've had her for about 3 months now and I'm pissed off to say she's stopped running right. A couple of weeks ago she started backfiring and was having trouble keeping her at idle. I pulled out the spark plugs and they were all blackened. Got some new plugs (NGK D8ES) and they fouled up almost immediatly. I went to go start her up today, she started went up to about 2000rpm in neutral and then just died out. This kept happened over and over! Plugs fouled again. I then looked inside the gas tank and there was black flaky deposits on the middle hump.There was the same deposits floating around in the amount of gas left. Could it be a clogged fuel line? Any ideas and solutions? F**ck I think I might have to clean out the gas tank and then clean out the fuel system? If it's the problem, how would I go about that?

What you need to do is remove the gas tank and clean it out the BEST you can. All it takes is one little piece of crap to get stuck in your carbs and thats it. You also should take your carbs off and give them a good cleaning..

Hey thx for the reply.....What would be the best way to clean out the gas tank, and what do I use to clean it, solvent and tool wise?

ive had success with muratic acid available at NAPA. i also suggest you throw a fuel filter inline. it will prevent this from happening again.

I have good luck with a product called "safest rust remover"..
I basically threw some in the tank and let it sit (per directions), then flushed it out with water. You would be surprised on how much crap will come outta their. Just make sure you either fill it back up with fuel or spray in something like WD40 or some marvel mystery oil back in the tank, so it doesnt start to rust again..

check your points. Often times ignition problems masquerade as carb problems, or make small problems you have seem worse. you definatly have some issues with the black stuff in your tank for sure, but a timing light and a dwell meter will help make sure you are not chasing phantoms once you have the carbs cleaned out and traces of the problem.

incidentally what year is your cb? how long do you leave the choke on before you turn it off? Do you hop on right away or do you give it a couple of minutes to warm up?

BTW since you are brooklyn native, why not start coming to bike night at bar matchless monday nights and meet some of the other locals.
