I am building this bike for my brother, so hopefully it is ready for the spring.

I am going to need some help with some of the suspension.

The questions I have are what should/can I do to the suspension on this bike that will not cost a tonne and increase the handling. Should I lower the front end, lower the rear end. ANy info on the suspension angles would be great.

Thanks

If you drop the front forks i would only go about a .25 -.50 inch.

I think Tapered steering head bearings and bronze swing arm bushings would be my first step. Then shocks out back. Good tires of course.
I think your brother would be happy with those few changes.

I agree, great potential here! Start with the tapered bearings and fresh swing arm bushings as pointed out above. How you set up the suspension is going to dependant on what the rider weighs, how tall he is(matters for position of the weight on the bike) and how it's going to be used.

I had an 82 in the shop a couple years back and IIRC we dropped the nose a full inch and added inch taller rear shocks. With fresh oil up front (10wt for the owner of the bike i worked on) and a 3/8" shim for the springs and it's was pretty good in the twisties.

Looks like you're well on the way, but strip off everything that isn't essential for keeping the bike together for weight savings. Mount the battery as low as possible and stuff like that.

Have fun!

I just found this out the other day from some of the guys on the GSfourms. It is apparently a tank from a GS450 of about the same vintage.

*** It looks like I may be getting a spot in a garage where I can work on my bikes, if this works out it will be much easier than loading/ unloading them from my truck every time I want to work on them.

I wanted to strip my tank down, smooth it out and paint it flack black. But when I was buying spraypaint, I decieded I was going to do something a but diffrent. The main color is now going to be olive drab. I still have the checkers to paint on it but for the most part it is finished.

Haven't posted any updates here in a bit, mostly because I haven't done much. The tank is nearly done and I picked up my pod filters and rear light/plate bracket. I finally received my fairing the other day so that is getting done in the same color with the checkers down the center

looking good I think i see some dry spray areas ,in this shot .It may need a few coats of clear in the same brand you painted the tank so far with.I am a fan of that tank shape as well nice aggressive lines.

Im so far behind ,that I think Im in first.

I know It needs some more clear, I had taken some 1600 grit to the 2 coats of clear I had on it as I wanted the vynal to have good adhesion. I am going to hit it with about 2 or 3 more clears and then wet sand, polish and wax to finish it off

Ok
So heres a bunch of dumb question for you
Did you use an adhesive vinyl sheet to do the checkers?
to mask out the areas
and then cut the black boxes out and spray them?
Do you have to use special adhesive vinyl for that?
Do you precut it and then put it on and peel it?
Sorry for all the questions
It looks hot and I would love to try something like that
