I took that Ducati 250 I picked up in a trade over to the Wizard, Pete T. the Ducati Specialist, and he said it would be a total waste to turn it into a dirt bike as it was one of the hottest Ducati 250's they made (I don't know much about them). So, he's going to pull it down and get it right ("Doug, there's nothing that money can't make right on the is motorcycle"), and then I'll make it a nice road bike again. I also suppose that would make it the most valuable, too. I want to hang onto it for awhile as these little bikes are supposed to have decent performance on the street. Another nice thing about Ducati singles is the availabilty of parts for them. Those Parilla's I had were another story.

At some point I'm thinking I might like to race something with legs a bit longer than my 200. And for some reason I have no interest in a 350 Honda.
And despite my jabbering...I like Ducs...I think I'm going to learn about the singles.

Matt. Nothing against the 350s. Obviously they are tough as nails and can be made to go pretty good. They just lack something that really gets me interested. I like the 175 cause it's sloped, it's a 360 degree crank and sounds cool, nobody's really dug deep into them and they were kind of underdogish.
I wouldn't mind building a 350/4....but too many parts. The way I do things it would get extremely expensive.

I might be better off punching out a 175 to 240cc and running in 250, 350 and LWSV.

I've scared myself...and scarred myself on many bikes. Not really my criteria for selecting a bike to race.
Ok...I admit it...I don't like the sound a CB350 makes...something about that 180 degree crank I just don't like.

JB,
Actually, from what I've seen, Ducati 250's only make around 24 hp. Heck, I was even racing with some of them when I bumped up to the 250 class last year, and I was getting 20 hp out of the BS then. Mind you, I didn't beat them, but I stayed right with them. With a cc increase, you'd have more than them. But, I'd build a 350 next, if I was you. Then you'd have 2 more classes you could run in. BTW, I'm with you, love the sound of a 360 crank over the "chug, chug" 180 cranks.

John, build a hot BSA 250 and then sell me the parts. I really think it has everything you want. Not very many racing, challenges galore to make them go fast and a lot of ooohing and aaaahhhing if you succeed. Yeah, I think that's the ticket.

I do like BSA's....I don't know why...I've never owned one. They look cool too.
In the next few years I'll start researching the ups and downs of different bikes...find something new to start working on. But dang I hate buying all the new books, manuals, catalogs.

Oh boy. A friend of mine is selling his 67' square barrel Triumph Cub. This thing just needs cosmetics to be complete. He had the engine completely rebuilt, brand new Alpha bearing in the lower end, new Boyer power box, new alloy rims and tires, rebuilt front end, new rear shocks, he's got over 3k in it right now. What it needs is paint and fenders. It runs tits and he'll take 2k. I don't think I can resist as I've always thought of Cubs as terrific little dual sports, able to run at 60 on the highway easily, yet right at home on a trail.

Like I need another project.

That'll make two giro bikes, I'll have to ride them Roman style. Then when I get that Duc' done, I'll have three........I'm doing it again...<sob>.
