AHRMA announces return to Road America June 14 & 15, 2008, along with MOTO-ST series. Road America will host two full days of AHRMA roadroading. The track will run a practice day on June 13. Though running with the MOTO-ST series, AHRMA will have a separate paddock area and will run races during the main part of the day. MOTO-ST racing will begin at 4:00 p.m. This exciting event will be back-to-back with the AHRMA Grattan roadrace, scheduled for June 21 & 22.

This is from the AHRMA website. If anyone has a chance to go to this race, you should. The track is unlike any you have ever raced before. The length of the track, the straights and the elevation changes are way fun. It is even fun on a CB350. I can hardly wait. Any of you Michiganders need to make the trip even if it is only to watch.

Texy, just do it. It is only about a 4 hr drive for me. I love it.

15 hours for me.......

only if i get a REAL good job!

sounds like it's gonna be pretty radical. i hope i can swing it.

tex

p.s.- what's up with the route j right off of route 67......

i saw lotsa roads with letter designations, c, aa, p, etc....

is that just to confuse the tourists?

My brother lives in Milwaukee... a few hours from road america. If anyone from cafe.net or USCRA need a free place to crash along the way to the races, let me know. I cannot make it.

Tex,
J is a county road that runs off of Hwy 67. 67 is a state hwy. In WI county roads use a letter designation. Double letter designations run off of a county road or join 2 county roads. So AA runs off of A and AB joins A and B. It kind of makes sense. J is about like the little road that you turn onto that runs into Summit Point if you are going from Charlestown.

It will be a good show if you can make it. If you just want to fly out, I will get a spare 350 together. Same goes for anybody else. I live less than an hour from Minneapolis airport.

I'm planning on the trek out at this point. I should have room in my trailer. The one thing that sucks is the FIM race at NHIS is the Monday after the Road America race.

that's unfortunate. but i don't think i would have had such an open window (time wise) to make it out there and back....basically a week off. that being said, RA is an awesome (an over used descriptor but appropriate here) track. been around it in a van (race school) and in a vintage lotus at speed. what a track. it consumes horsepower like no where else. front staight over a mile long and the next one almost as long and down hill. even big power (can-am) cars take a week to get from one end to the other. the turns are mostly fast with ample (for vintage bikes) run-off. hope i can go another year.

craig, thats not what sucks. what sucks is spending another weekend driving around with broken ribs and a mangled bike.

So who thinks they can make it? Judey? it isn't far from MI and I am sure there are some AHRMA racers fron the Detroit area that are coming. I can make some calls if you want to get togeher with somebody for the drive. How about Krapfever and the Ohio guys? Ratty 550, it isn't too far. We should have an AHRMA get together a RA and a WERA get together at Summit. Double points races for the Caeracer.net trophy.

Judey,
RA would be a great place to start racing. It is not that technical of a track. I imagine that AHRMA may be having a race school on the Friday practice day. You should have your 350 done by then. Lets go racing. Then you would be ready for the next weekend at Grattan. Grattan is way more difficult to do well at than RA.

That sounds way cool. However (and it's a big however), the 350 project started as a road bike, not a race bike. Plus, I don't have leathers, or boots, or gloves, or a proper helmet - yet. Got a few things on my Christmas list, but I think I'm lookin' at close to $1000, am I not?
That said, since I've been hangin' out here, I've started to think about getting a rule book & safety wiring the bike so I could take it to a track day. I think I have about $250 in the race fund at present (big jar of change on my dresser), which is not going to get me very far.
I think you might have to settle for my attendance as a spectator, this time around - I consider that progress toward my racing career.

Texy,
Are the Fuel Cafe guys out of Milwaukee? If so they were at Grattan and Mid Ohio a couple of years ago.
I am going to have to work on some of my friends to come out of semi-retirement and race. They have never done AHRMA, but have SV650s so they can run the twins classes. I don't know if any of you guys ever raced against Ed Key or not, but he is the fastest guy around on an SV650. I don't think he is travelling much these days but he only lives about 3 hrs from RA too.

i know that name (ed key).....blazing fast twins guy.

yeppers, fuel cafe is out of milwaukee. i haven't seen them in awhile, but i haven't done ahrma in awhile either. they were a lot of fun to have in the paddock. i remember when larry poons died his hair green in umbrage to the fuel guys (because of all the grief they were getting from ahrma management).

larry poons became my favorite from then on out.

cheers,

texy

Texy,
I saw Larry Poons at the last couple of Grattans. Those Fuel cafe guys have some weird stuff like the Puch twingles and I think a really beautiful JPS Norton. They are a pretty big show in the pits.

Yeah, Ed is fast. He was part of my regular traveling group in the late 70's early 80's. We had about six of us that hung together. On any given weekend we would load the van back up on the way home with a good percentage of the available trophies.

the chivinmoto guys are almost all going. i've already booked a hotel room as we've heard that they aren't allowing camping. the fuel guys seem to be busy with their other restaurants and racing some modern stuff.

scott from chicago
