forgive my ignorance but what do you need a transponder for in racing? Is it what broadcasts your location to the timing clocks? Keep in mind the only motorcycle racing I have done is drag racing (and one time trial at a test and tune).

fine, i have turnbulls and he'll probably never race a motorcycle again now that he has something else to ride. (kidding you fucker, i do want it back!!!!)

it gives lap times, overall times, position, relation to other riders, average speed and a whole host of other useless info. theyre really pretty cool and alot of fun to see your actual times, not times some schmoe takes with a stop watch at some arbitrary line. see mylaps.com for a sample.
