Hello folks,

I am in the process of installing a Tony Hayward belt drive primary on my '69 650 motor.

When I go to tighten everything down.. the clutch basket wont move/rotate any more. Something is seriously binding here...

Has anyone here had any experiences with these belt drive kits?

Looking for clues at this point....

thanks in advance.

Wes,
Welcome to the board. I have delt with this before I just have to remember what the resolution was. I think it was the copper thrust washer behind the rollers that we ended up using a thinner version of. I have to call my buddy Hutch and see as he would "What the fuck" we did to fix this.

Thanks for the reply Aarom.

Yea.. my motor builder was pondering a thinner thurst washer. Also maybe machining a bit of the surface of the clutch basket down.

This one Cat told me to check the size of each of those little roller bearings. He was saying that even if one of those was longer then the other... it could cause the binding.

So... I do have some clues.... but wanted to check here to see if anybody else has encountered this.

I really need to get this bike on the road. ;)

I believe we were suspect of the rollers as well and found nothing. Then ended up finding a slightly thinner thrust that we thought would help but in the end we machined down the surface of basket.

Aaron - I think the rollers would only make it drag not freeze. I'm not sure.
