Hi guys,

Bought myself my first ever cafe racer project over the weekend, a BMW R80RT.
As you can see, i haven't wasted no time in taking off the fairing :D

The idea behind me signing up for this forum is to hopefully get some advice and tips in what i should do to the bike and where i should go to buy parts etc.? Keeping the cost as minimal as possible, if i can. (Hopefully lol)

Would be great to hear back from you all, and please bare with me on responding, i am new to this! :)

Ash.

Looks like Renntech is cars-only, sorry...

Frame cross-bracing is a very nice imptrovement if you're a decent rider and will be pushing the bike hard.

For quite a while now I've been resisting the temptation to build something along these lines....

Reading these BMW threads isn't helping.....!

As far as getting spares. I've spent 1000's with https://www.motobins.co.uk/ over the years.
Motor Works is also worth a look.
It won't be cheap to do a reasonable job on the airhead.
Noticed you have NGK plug caps fitted, I'd strongly recommend getting the original BMW ones, but that'll be nearly £100 of your budget gone.
You really don't want to get a jolt from the ignition...trust me.

Hi Steve,

Funny you mention the plug caps as i'm in the process of actually ordering some new ones but didn't think NGK's would make a difference? is buying the originals a must?
Also, been toying with the idea of removing the airbox and replacing with two K&N like the image i have attached.. what do you think?

The only reason I mentioned the plug caps was that I got a nasty shock from one a while back. Just done a quick search, and it seems plenty of people use the NGK's, so all I'd say is keep your hands well clear while the engine's running.
All the Airheads I've owned have had the original airbox, and exhausts. So can't help with the pod filters.

I was helping a friend with a bit of carb tweaking on his R100GS a little while ago and they are so easy to work on. Carbs come off in seconds.

Well, there goes another great touring bike.
Pwalo, this one's yours, sir.
Educate!
At the moment it's all post apocalyptic ninja streetfighter and virago cafe bobber on this site so seeing something being hacked up and turned into a cafe racer is a good start IMO.

I kinda like the old beemers in a scratching the top of the pots around corners way.

Build something nice that works or we will taunt you to within an inch of your life.

Sadly this thread is lame as fuck because he squeegees the odd picture up on the site but fails to sprinkle it with text as to what the fuck he is doing and why.... I'm betting my freshly painted purple arse in a shop window against him doing a sub 12.5 second standing quarter on the bike in the thread.

He gonna show us all how it's done with a hooligan bike

FUCKIN YEAH... FUCKIN YEAH BRO *Bumps chest*
