bought a dead'ish 84 cbx750f for 50 bucks.


has no upper or lower fairings, side covers, and is rough. has been fighting me but after stripping down the jammed starter and solenoid she's spinning over smooth and has oil pressure. tappet cover was off when found and some nong has been stuffing with the oil feed lines.they left two bolts out and one was under a rocker hold an inlet valve open on number 2. pulled it and it has good feelable compression on all pots.

wondering if anyone here has or had one and if they were any good. still a way off hearing it start but think if i have spark it can be coaxed to run. have the carbs at my work in pieces and the varnish is horrendous but coming out.

My brother has one, he bought it before I told him not to
I worked on a lot of them in the 80's (in Suzuki dealer!)
Personally, I find you either get a good one , or, you get a pile of parts.
Sounds like you have the latter.
If they are not serviced properly and regular oil changes with correct oil, the hydraulic tappets stick, wear, won't bleed and generally rattle (which may need new ones to fix problem)
The cranks fail on 2 or 3 cyl, metal spraying and re-grind seems to fix it though.
I would pull oil pump and check for wear/damage from dirty oil

I am not familar with that bike - do you have pics? is it like the nighthawk 750 like we got here in the states? or a continuation of the DOHC cb750F from 79-83?

thanks pj. for the cost i was fine to buy it as the switchgear is as per my cbr hurricane. the clutch mastercylinder was also a good reason. thinking if i can get it running ok i might build a drag bike from it. hoping the centrestand may transfer over to the hurricane with some mods if needed.will know if all is dead or not when i get the carbs and ignition sorted.

yeah we didn't get those...We got the 750 nighthawk which looks to share a chassis and engine, but different bodywork. The closest we got was the shaft drive nighthawk S, which still doesn't look like that:

you could be right with the basic donk but the hydro clutch fell off and a rear shock fell on. they fairly reliable by the nighthawk phase? think i've only seen one in the flesh.

looks to be the same motor but prefer it to the nighthawks styling. a friend, tracey, has one and loves it. i note also they are a five not a sixspeeder. with luck it'll be simpler to chase up a manual for the nighthawk or seven-fifty, just hope they are as similair as they look.

seems the system works, i ask a question and you lot provide answers. this place has gone to the dogs!

Yep, Nighthawk motor is almost identical.
Think its a bit down on power and runs lower gearing than the Euro bike?
