Has anyone else mutilated a couple of the caps that go on the rotary oil filter on these engines?

After struggling with a few of them, and seeing very many used examples torn up by previous owners I made a tool for hooking inside the holes and pullng the cap off.

Well...Bill Douglas recently sent me one that I needed, in very nice shape. I was cleaning it up to install it on an engine and noticed...guess what...inside the hole that the 6mm hold down bolt goes through are 8mm puller threads. I'm sure Honda makes a special tool that attaches there, but it would be quite simple to build a little slide hammer with an 8mm thread..which is of course what I'm going to do.

Don't tell me I'm the only one that never noticed those threads.

An 8mm bolt will thread in and push the cover away from the end of the crank. Same as a 350.

There is sometimes a tense moment when the cover is quivering under tension, held in by that aluminum paste, and you're wondering "will it break this time?" and it suddenly bursts from the opening in the side cover.
I have to stop and have a smoke before cleaning out the sludge.

A much sexier system than the "grab and yank" method with the Superhawk (and other sloper motors?).
