I've seen it done on other forums where a guy will post progress pics of a project. Others follow along and give him words of encouragement. These encouraging words inspire him to get off his lazy ass, bundle up in his carhartt's, and bravely trundle over to his unheated shop space in the dead of an Ohio winter to work (and, dare I say, to dream)…

So here's what I got so far:

Mock up:

160 triple trees are also now off to have the 160 stem removed and pressed into a set of 350 trees. Thanks for the advice on that one.

Let me know what you think and call me gay if I stop posting updates.

My last 175 was using a XL350 fork-35mm tubes. It seemed to work ok but the tubes had about 2" extra sticking out of the top. The current bike has a CB350 front end on it. I don't have much time on it but it seems ok for now and is noticeably lighter.

I'd be in for a group purchase of all the sloper parts in the yard there.

Hey Krap
Hopefully Buchannons included the little bottle of oil. I couldn't see it in the pictures and I can send you some extras I've got if you need. REALLY important to prevent galling when you get the tension near finished. Truing isn't hard as long as you tighten everything evenly and fix the hops as you go. A good quality spoke wrench makes life alot easier too

The stuff Buchannons supplies is the color and consistency of A-1 steak sauce. As JB said it's critical to use it with a stainless spoke and nipple setup. Even then I've had them gall and destroy the nipple. Rare but it does happen. It may not be as important with the plated stuff but I use it anyway.
The heat wheels generate on the track will force the oil up and out so you'll be cleaning at the end of the day, street wheels don't make as much heat so the oil stays put better.

I will usually lace a hub completely before putting a rim on. Sometimes a rim isn't drilled for that particular hub/spoke combination. I almost trashed a pretty valuable Hoske racing hub because the special supplied rim was wrong even though the owner swore it was correct.

How was the quality on that 80/90 Avon? the one I used was hard as a rock and didn't run straight. The distributor said all the ones he had in that model looked like that. I tried to give it away but it was given back to me

The sales guy said they only stocked a race tire in that size. It wasn't marked with the Avon "for competition use only" stamp.
I've been really pleased with the Dunlops in that size but always interested in other peoples experience

I've been using small freeze plugs from the auto parts store pushed into the kick starter hole. I don't remember the size but you can take the sidecover in with you to check for fit. No leaks

I think most of us are using the Accel coil. Can't remember the model number, but I can look tonight and report later. Get the model for points, 3-5 ohm
