has anyone ever heard good or bad differences between the aluminum and steel bodied oil pumps for a cb350? Bigger barrel diameter for the aluminum.

the bigger is supposed to be more capacity. but i dont really know if its worth anything if the passages are the same size. jb probably has a good opinion on it.

I'd agree with Joe...bigger is usually better....but yes the passages are real important.

What is the piston made of on the pump...steel or aluminum?

The piston on the aluminum body pump is steel and the steel body pump has an aluminum piston. The gallery entrance into the block is the same for both. I'd opened up the top end feed hole a bit so the pressure may be down a bit anyway but I don't know if it matters at all. The bigger pump is probably pushing a bit less pressure.
It didn't occur to me until this morning to check the serial # on the motor I found it in to see if it was a late model improvement or an early bad idea that didn't work.

It may not matter at all. Just use the one that's scarred up the least. But in my quest to assemble the ultimate Mother-Of-All-Tanner-Beater motor I didn't want to miss a trick

If the piston is larger on one, and the oil passages are the same size, you'll get a higher oil pressure with the larger piston. That could only be a good thing. Well, you might get an oil leak in the cylinder head to cylinder joint if the pressures too high...

Swap that lead weight in the center of your bike with a RD350 engine.

make sure your pump works befor you go to the dyno... i didn't and pete caught it. saved me some time and money.

if ya want to beat me .... ya have to throw bits o crap into my carbs at the grid. i am going to be so freakin tired...from being your monkey, you will have no problem beatin me.

bolt on nitrous helps for the turn i, ia, 2 setup. ask jd 350/4 about that.

shit is on bill. i am waving bye bye to you anf the rest of ya on the straight.

Bill, just do the old stick in the spokes trick on the starting grid. Or kick him down a gear when you pass him on the left. Or hit his killswitch when he goes by.

Seriously, I've been staring at this half done motor since last July and just need to get it off the table.
Matt- things are moving along nicely. You'll be pleased when you visit. How does this Saturday look?

350 CB oil pump... I read that the early small piston pump puts out more pressure. It had to, in order to keep the early cam chain tensioner working, (pressure system), However, Honda changed the cam chain system, and went to the different,(lower pressure) pump at the same time. That's what one of the Brit bike mag. said. Classic MC mechanics? Both systems suck. I have never heard any bad things about the KL tensioner. Wild Bill D. has one. I think Clancy Pants has one also. They had them before they were "legal", I'm told. (I need to buy one for my new 350 street bike.)

the only thing i remember about racing with you was trying for about 2 laps to catch you, finally passing you, waving you on to race, then turning around and you were no where to be found. man, an i thought you were on my ass the entire time. next year, i want to have a race with you. i do have a cool pic of me in front of you and jd and a few other bikes in 1a. just before i wadded it in t2. man, that was a fun day.

i have the ka. i dont have it installed though. its just sitting here ready to go.
