the bigger is supposed to be more capacity. but i dont really know if its worth anything if the passages are the same size. jb probably has a good opinion on it.

The piston on the aluminum body pump is steel and the steel body pump has an aluminum piston. The gallery entrance into the block is the same for both. I'd opened up the top end feed hole a bit so the pressure may be down a bit anyway but I don't know if it matters at all. The bigger pump is probably pushing a bit less pressure.
It didn't occur to me until this morning to check the serial # on the motor I found it in to see if it was a late model improvement or an early bad idea that didn't work.

It may not matter at all. Just use the one that's scarred up the least. But in my quest to assemble the ultimate Mother-Of-All-Tanner-Beater motor I didn't want to miss a trick

If the piston is larger on one, and the oil passages are the same size, you'll get a higher oil pressure with the larger piston. That could only be a good thing. Well, you might get an oil leak in the cylinder head to cylinder joint if the pressures too high...

Seriously, I've been staring at this half done motor since last July and just need to get it off the table.

350 CB oil pump... I read that the early small piston pump puts out more pressure. It had to, in order to keep the early cam chain tensioner working, (pressure system), However, Honda changed the cam chain system, and went to the different,(lower pressure) pump at the same time. That's what one of the Brit bike mag. said. Classic MC mechanics? Both systems suck. I have never heard any bad things about the KL tensioner. Wild Bill D. has one. I think Clancy Pants has one also. They had them before they were "legal", I'm told. (I need to buy one for my new 350 street bike.)
