cb650 cam chain with new gaskets?

aiight, so i'm tired of the 650 marking its teritorry on the bottom of my pant legs so i ordered a gasket kit. not very familiar with bike motors, i'm an air coole vw guy (although i fucking hate that "scene" i still like the cars, but then again, i don't like any other fucker's car but mine.. ah, frustration) and besides the fact that it's air cooled, well, i'd be more comfortable taking the thing appart and changing the gaskets if the pistons were doing each other sideways instead of standing up.

anyway, how do y'all feel about changing the cam chain while i'm at it. i ask cause, well, i know it's supposed to be semi normal to hear the engine click but maybe it's too much.. i'm not sure, i don't know, that's why i'm asking.

nah, i can't find a factory manual for the 650 (got one for the FT).

i do have a bunch of microfiches that i havent gone to the library to check out yet. i guess i'll have to huh. and i have an aftermarket manual, whatever brand it is, i dont remember.

so, there's a bunch of VW guys here.... I’ve got a 74 standard that I purchased as a mistake really, and now, i'm being a perfectionist with the "restoration". takin' foreva!

in this shot you can see the engine in the distance (rebuilt 1600 but with 87mm pistons so i guess it's around 1640/70cc?). i'm gathering parts for a dual carb set up using notchback intake manifolds.

wooooaaaaaa no way! it "looks" ok from a picture like this but no f'n way sir!

i live in maryland where they salt the roads like you spread penut butter on your toasts. i mean, they go evil on them roads. so the rear passenger floors had to be replaces and the heater channels have been patched the fuck up on the inside by the previous owner. right where the heater channels end up by the rear wheel wells looked suspicious one day, so i took a hammer and screwdriver and poked it. turns out the guy before me stuck some latex gloves and put 2 inches of bondo to close up the massive hole there. fucking asshole! i still remember where he lives and i've wanted to go kick his ass more than once. the bottom of front nose was reshaped using an inch of bondo as well. one day i was putting the spare back in and CRACK it just split that bondo appart. it didnt go through but it was highly visible so i got a new nose to weld on now. but the problem is that the made in brazil nose is off by almost 1cm. so either i have to fit it differently or have a gap between the hood and the body. i'm going to try to get my 2 buddies over on saturday or sunday so we can fit the bitch right.

there you have it, it's about it really. once i'll have the nose done properly, i could lay down the primer on the body.

anyone interested in a shortened 69VW floor pan? the trans comes with it and if you want i've also got a 1600 engine appart for you to fit on or a corvair long block.

is $144 for an OE cam chain too much? the stuff i find online seems to be not OE and adjustable and $50 cheaper.
