Good morning All,

Does anyone know what for what years a CB750 tank will fit a '78 CB550? There are loads on ebay and I've seen a couple of nice bikes that claim to use one. What measurements do I need to see if one would fit?

my buddy chris has one on his 500/4 i think the seat catch is key. hes also told me his seat had to be cut to make it fit and there are some pros with the petcock.

Thanks for the links. I'm supposed to get some intake manifold parts nuts and o rings today - if the dealer got them in...lol. With luck she'll be running this evening. I'll keep you posted.

Why do you want to put a production honda tank on a bike you are building as manx lookalike?

I saw a CB550 with a CB750 tank that I liked the look of and was just wondering what years would fit. Actually, it seems as though quite a few 750 parts will fit. I discovered that I need to rebuild the front master cylinder and in looking around found that the 550 shares the front brake assembly with several CB models. But you're right, a CB750 tank is definitely not manx inspired.

Here's a 400/four that I really like the look of by Moto Tumbi. Unfortunately it's in fiberglass.

That Laverda triple tank looks pretty good. What price for would be a good deal for it? I don't have a clue as to how nuch something like that is worth.

Glass or aluminum tanks are between 500 and 750 dollars so thats your ,price gauge any thing below that is a good deal if its big and steel and has looks you like.If its in steel its fabrication and welding to get it to fit ,If its glass its fiberglass resin and gel coat madness.

There are a few hondas on that page which tank exactly were you referring too.

The gray Dunstall Cb400/four, has a Dunstall tank, bikini fairing and a Manx style seat. I think it's second from the bottom of the page.

What model Honda is War Horse's tank from? It looks great. Also, how did you get the engine so clean? Bead blasting or...?

the dunstall tank on the 400/4 is not the same as the dunstall or dresda tanks that fit the cb750 and 550 (I think that the tank pictured is actually an old dresda not a dunstall but it could be). A stock sohc tank can look good if massaged properly. I really like this tank and it is just a stock 69-76 tank with the emblem goles filled in and an old 60's honda motorcycle badge on the tank:

for reference the 1969-1974 tanks have a right side petcock, 1975 and 1976 have a left side petcock. see which will work better with your setup.

dresda still makes a universal manx style seat, same one they made back then and it looks like the one on that 400 four (because it has the cutout for the dresda over the tank mount).

anyway, omar's DTR has a cool manx fly screen that looks like it will work with a lot of bikes. see their yamaha xs650 conversion kit.

I've looked at Omar's flyscreen - very cool. I'll probably get one eventually: right now I'm concentrating on getting it going (slow dealer. 'nuff said). I'll check out the Dresda seat, it sounds about right.

The green #73 Honda is a cool looking bike, especially the tank emblem.
