First, I'd just like to say this is my first post, so sorry for any repeat questions. Like my subject says, I have a pair of clip-ons for my bike that I'm about to put on and would like some feedback in terms of placement. I'm thinking of possibly sticking them on top of the upper clamp for the ease of installation (I'm sure a few of you are either laughing or gasping!), but am reluctant b/c I'm unsure of how the bike would handle with the fork legs being moved up 2"....I'm unsure of the riding position with them in the "proper" position with the standard foot peg position too. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Krooklyn,
I would not drop the front end to put the bars above the top triple clamp. I believe it would mess up the handling and the looks. Just mount them right below the top clamp, they will be fine. As far as riding position goes, just give it a try and see how it feels for you. I suspect you will need the footpegs back a few inches. Try a search on here, it has been discussed. Again it is probably something you are going to need to make yourself. My advice to anyone just starting out is to find a salvage yard or established dealer with some bikes out back that will let you poke around. Remember e-gay will be your friend on all this.

ken,
thanks for the input. i figured it would mess with the handling, but i just wanted to hear it from somebody else...i do have a pair of clubman bars i think i'll mount before i bolt on the clip-ons. i just can't see myself sinking $3-400 on a pair or rearsets...maybe just going with a flat bar would be better?

pulling the top clamp is easy, the fork won't 'fall off' or anything. Mount the clip-ons just below the upper clamp. Tighten them snug so you can sit on the bike and find a comfy spot. On the 500t you may need to pull the headlight ears.... not sure.

As for rearsets, use the search button up top. Lots of ways to skin the cat.
