Is anybody interested in doing a clutch start at an event this year? Maybe in one of the smaller displacement catagories.
I was watching that movie "The Road Racers" over the weekend and really dug the slo-mo of these race starts. I'd love to do this season

i thought he meant like the old school hand off the clutch up near your helmet starts. not bump starts. tex, if we ever make it back to nhis, we have to do our bump off from the back row. im still looking forward to it!

I'm talkin dead motor run and jump on. You know- old time hockey. That's why I was thinking one of the smaller classes because it would be easier to stagger the starting grid to give you a straight shot through the row in front of you if needed. Probably would be tough in FCB or some other class with 25+ entries.
Perhaps the guys who opt for the running motor start could be in a second wave at the back.
I love the silence at the start.

Bill....in the past the issue in the USCRA has been that the club includes riders up to 80 years old. Yes most of them are in good shape, but there are various game legs, club feet, web toes, bad knees, flippers and fungus problems.
So requiring a old school start usually isn't fair to them.
But yeah...a second wave for people that WANT to push start their bikes would be great....I'll be sitting up front with the engine running at 10,000 rpm and my hand on the clutch :)

Yeah, I did think a little about some of the older guys- that's why I was thinking maybe 200 or 250 gp. Bikes that were relatively easy to light.
And selfishly something I own.

we have had trouble getting the "bump starts" like bfd is talking about in the 50's-80's classes because of the reason johnny addressed that i am now pointing out in this thread which aaron will probably delete.

p.s.- i will definately be game for a bump start from the back row in formula cb. it will be fun having/trying to work my way up and thru the pack. i don't think the almighty coy or the starter will have any problem with it, but we'll have to ask.

Tex, you must be thinking of a "Le Mans" start. I think a Monza start is done in French or something. And we did Le Mans starts in 50s a few times but it actually led to a couple of pulled ham strings or achilles tendons or anyway a coulple of people ended up gimp for a few days afterwards. Good luck on it though, its fun to watch.

Gotta remember, it's the first 20 or 30 feet where most people pull muscles from not being stretched or warmed up.
I once tore a thigh muscle running to first base on a cold April morning at a prison baseball game. Felt like some jammed a big rock inside my leg.

PS. Yeah..a Loudon Start. Everyone stands in line for an hour, isn't told when the race starts, and you have to pay for your bike to park on the track!
