I just hooked up a bicycle computer on one of my flattrack bikes. It's pretty cool, since I don't have any other way to capture data.
$29.00 and it tells me average and top speeds, total time and distance. I was able to calibrate it to within about 1 percent error.
Don't know how well it'll hold up under race conditions...
Anyway, with the current gearing (15-48) 3rd gear tops out at around 56.7 mph. Can't wait to run it on a track.

Got it at the local bicycle shop, it's made by Trek. It does have a magnet that you mount on the wheel or spoke, with a pick-up on the fork. You have to run a wire up the fork leg to the handlebar mount.
Cheap way to confirm speedo/odo information.
