had a pretty big spectacular crash yesterday on a real fast trail we had been riding. we were xr100ing it. i lost the front in the first part of the esses, caught it then lost it immediately in the second section. i was in 5th gear. i ended up going off the trail and into the woods. i ended up laying about 40' in. the bike about 10' from me. (why was i going that fast you ask??? well i had to pass the xr250 in front of me!) anyway, when i went off, i had the back sliding/tankslaping and it highsided me into the trees. ive never rag dolled at the track, and let me tell you, it freakin hurts!! my back is trashed, my ribs are sore, and ive been eating aleve like no tomorrow. i rode the rest of the day and everything finally seized on the way home. it was down right frightening, me, flying through the woods out of control. i did 2 complete head first, back down backflips. i remember hitting the ground shoulders first, then my feet going over my head and flipping me onto my stomache. nearly lost a nipple too!! the bike barrel rolled twice and ripped the throttle off. but it was ok! pounded the throttle on and it kept going. but i am one sore mfer. hoping to heal for vir, but one side of my back is pretty swollen. sucks. this is the worst motorcycle riding injury ive ever had. on a 100. i was riding it harder than it was designed, the suspension sucks, the tires are probably bad now, only maybe 20 hrs on them but they look worn, an those little wheels just arent designed to run like that. but its still fun as hell.

i will say i remember flying through the air and worrying about the helmet i have. its a simpson snell05 dot helmet. moto-x helmet. it worked great. its the 3rd time this helmet has saved my ass in a big way.

you guys just use some common sense running your 100's around. i was really close to being really seriously hurt. like medivac hurt.

it wont stop me though. maybe slow me down a bit. but i aint stoppin!

i'm glad you're mostly OK. and while that sucks and all, there was no chance i coulda crashed a moto-bike out on the trails yesterday 'cause i was effing at WORK.

and yeah, you'd better heal by VIR cause i wont accept any excuses when i bury you on the first lap going down the hill.

Damn Joe! Take it easy in the woods with no run-off. You can really get hurt on those little bikes too. I crashed pretty hard on my XR100 last year, nothing like your's, but I realized I need to start wearing the gear all the time.

yeah, everyone should have a chest and back protector. its now at the top of the list for when i feel good enough to ride the thing again. thats why i like the place i found. wide open. very little tight stuff. plenty of room. this place is tight and fast, and not really great for speed freaks on 100's. the wheels are too small. the suspension is spindly, and ive just thought about my tires maybe going bad. for 60 bucks i can have new tires. guess when they bite you, they bite good since you tend to ride them so hard.

yeah, i was going way too fast. its so easy to do though. on the 100, you feel like you can handle almost anything because you can save a lot of shit. but then it can all go really wrong. have the right gear, and be careful. my boots saved me countless times yesterday.

i feel better today than i did yesterday, thats for sure.

Really. I found out I can hurt myself just as bad on an XR100 as anything else. And I'm also a convert to putting on the protective stuff anytime I'm riding (off of my driveway anyway.)
Joe, sounds like you were gettin' the most out of the XR, which is fun, but...sometimes you gotta let the bigger bikes go.

i think the size suckers you in. and the "lack of speed" but 35mph through the trails, is plenty to seriously hurt ya.

just be careful out there. i usually wear gloves, boots, a motorcross helmet, glasses, and at least a short sleeve and heavy shirt/jacket/or sweatshirt. but i took a pretty good beating. also remember, evaluate where youre riding. just like on the street. the conditions can change from corner to corner in the dirt. and trees, and ruts and rocks can all be nasty. but still have fun.

and yeah, sometimes, its better to just let the faster guys go.

Glad you survived without major injuries!

Worried about your head though, next time. You mention your helmet has saved you 3 times. The liner in most of them is a type of styrofoam, and once it compresses one time from any accident it no longer offers REAL protection in that area. Maybe find out if you can get a new lining for it? If not it could be time for a new lid.

Didn't notice where you said you got checked out by an MD in any of the posts. Doing the sky, dirt, sky, dirt, sky, dirt ride and then finishing the day is impressive but shit can creep up on you days later.
Get checked out if you already haven't. If you came off half as bad at a track they'd be making you go to medical, play it safe.

yeah, i thought about it, but my $1k deductible would destroy my racing budget! but im feeling a hell of alot better every day. the hiccups dont hurt anywhere near as much today as they did yesterday! :)

ive felt worse crashing snowboarding (many many times), wakeboarding, skateboarding, jetskiing......god, wakeboarding nearly paralyzes me everytime. but its sooo fun.

thanks for the concern. youre absolutely right though.

Well, in that case I'd prescribe large amounts of alchohol....won't cure shit, but if you have enough you don't care!
Good to hear you're on the mend.
