Hey I just wanted to know peoples worst crashes and injuries. Nothing horrific or anything. I'll get things started:

6/09/06 Was riding on Pierblossom Hwy thru Lancaster CA, on a 2005 Harley Davidson 1200cc Sportster (yeah I know, I know lol), don't really know what happened, other than a vague recolection of a white truck rolling a stop into the highway. Then my eyes swollen shut as people are telling me not to move. Fast foward to the hospital, a massive concussion, a 5 inch gash above my right eyebrow, ruptured spleen that was removed, and orthipedic hip surgery. Yeah, not too fun. Bike totaled, i've moved on on have been working on my cafe racer 82 xj650, staying away from crusing for a while.

Never found the guy that hit me, i didnt have medical insurance which puts me in the whole 85k, but I'm young so I can file for bankruptcy to take care of it. Not the best situation but I've explored all other options and eh, that's life. Fall off the saddle, get right back on.

What about you guys?

2 feb, 2004. i got rearended by one car then while i was spinning around from that hit i got broadsided by another car, totaled the cb450 chopper i was on, broke 3 ribs and dislocated my right shoulder. when the cops rolled up on the scene they thought for sure i would be dead from the condition of the bike. i got out of the hospital in 2 days, sued the ass off the dimwit that was on her cellphone and........everyone say it with me now..............didnt see me......got enough to pay off the mortgage on our house and all my student loans. i understand she hasnt driven a car since that day.

some people are like slinkies, basically useless but they still make me smile when i push them down the stairs

July 3rd 2004. Guy changed lanes into me on the northern state parkway between the shelter rock road and willis ave exits. Knocked the front end of my bike out from under me at 65mph. I went over the handlebars and was then run over with the bike (I framed the t-shirt with the tire mark). I flat backed on the pavement and slide for a good long while. chrash guards keep the bike from crushing my leg. The girlfriend was in her toyota corolla behind me and stuffed the car in the guardrail to avoid hitting me sliding on the highway - her car totaled as it spun around.

My injuries were a displaced collar bone and three broken toes. The road rash was not even bad enough for them to wire brush me. My ego was brused as I had to be taken away in an ambulance from a department I used to work for by friends of mine (I was a firefighter for 5 years). My injuries were not severe enough to justify suing the car owner and I ended up losing my job at the law firm because my performance suffered (hard to type with your arm in a sling). When I left the firm my boss didn't even know I had been injured - that is how often he was in the office.

The girlfriend was fine except it took us a year to save for another car (which some asshole just deprived us of when he ran a stop sign last month).

the only upside is that the forks and frame were not bent and I rode the bike home from the salvage yard it got towed to after the accident. The insurance company wanted to total it but I had all the pieces to fix it and I did. The bike tracks straight and except for the case guard you would never know it was in an accident.

Kill me now.

Eww, model airplanes...cox engines running at a gazillion rpm, no thanks.

I think I crashed my first bike, '78 SR500, the most. Low sided when I panicked going into a right hander with some puddles in the road. Fixed it. Then tried to pass a car that was passing a truck on a two lane, went off the shoulder, tried to get back on and just flipped it, flying W, the whole bit. Fixed it. Then low sided after crossing a wooden bridge in the summer when the creosote was oozing out of the wood, didn't fix it. Then went into a 15 MPH turn that really was, and still is, a 15 MPH turn at about 25, picked myself out of the softball sized rocks lining the culvert, got a lady passing by with her kids in the pickup to haul me and my bike home. Fixed it and sold it to buy a Laguna racing kart.
Earlier in the day that I crashed in the culvert, I also crashed my '73 RD350. Low sided hanging a right 'cause the rear tire had done so many burnouts it was just about flat across the tread, with a 90 degree transition to the sidewall. That was a bad day. Two rides in the back of pickup trucks.
But I guess I was luckier than some of you guys. Every single one was my fault, and I walked or rode away from all of 'em.

I'm up to about 15-20 broken bones and around 500 stiches right now.

I'd rather not think about most of them.

In fact...I have a broken rib right now. Of course that was from a bear hug given me by one of our doormen last week.
Correction.....Ex-doorman.

I still think Hirko is simultaneous broken bone champ...what was it Craig? 14 rib breaks at one time?

JohnnyB,

The doctor told me he stopped counting when he got to 12 ribs, and plus the scapula that was broke at the same time made it a lucky 13. I've got the X-rays at home if anyone wants to try counting to see if there's more. All I know is they hurt no matter if there is one or 12 broke.

JC - I'd like to hear the model airplane story.

Scna your x-rays and post them! My wife is an xray tech, she'd love to see them. I'll post some she brought home the other day from a guy that dropped a pallet of granite blocks on his foot.

i was in jr high. about 7th grade or so. i used to be in a club that flew mostly on weekends. i was helping a buddy of mine warm up a plane, doing the usual, run it, hold straight up and down at full throttle to warm it up. so i set it back down on the ground, and its running at about half throttle. and i notice a roll of papers towels is awefully close to the prop. so i take my left hand off of the leading edge while still holding the tail and reach to point to the roll of paper towels. got my fingers a little too close to the prop and caught it in the hand. it split my pinky about half way down. to the bone, there was just a flap of skin flopping around. like a peeled banana, and i got 2 nice slices on my palm. severed a few muscles, tendons and hit a vein or 2. anyway, since i was sitting in the wash, i got sprayed with blood. basically from head to about my waste since i was kneeling down. i mean covered. we haul me off to the local emergency room and since i dont have a parent with me, they wont work on me til my mom gets there. unless im going into shock. (?) so i have to wait 45 mins for my mom to get there. so there i am sitting in the emergency room waiting area, covered in dry blood, with a guy who walks in with a fishing hook all of the way through his thumb. it looked like the scene from beetlejuice at the end. i remember it took 4 er staff to hold me down when they started shooting my hand full of local. then everything was cool. i even liked watching them put the stitches in. i wish i had a picture of it all.

Had a few good one's myself. Not going to include all the motocross injuries (too many to list).
I was working at a large HD dealership in K.C. and was riding a customers brand spanking new Dyna Superglide that he had just dumped $3500 into for motor work. Have to admit that I was gouging it a little more than I should have. Some chick in a Nissan Sentra pulls up on a side street and looks right through me. She proceeded to pull out and then she saw me. Instead of standing on the gas, she locks em up. I did a big dirt track broadslide, boot down and all. Into the other lane I go and, thank god, no traffic was coming. Hit her plastic bumper with my knee hard enough to hyperextend it but kept the bike upright. Then, the dipshit tries to drive off! I took off my full face helmet and chucked it at her decklid. Big ass dent but she just keeps the hammer down. Well, my dumb ass tries to go after her but the fubar'd knee ain't working quite right.

In the end I called the shop and had to limp it in. We called the local Sherriff, who was a really good guy. He found her two days later and charged her with hit and run. I'm just glad it ended as good as it did.

I've been remarkably fortunate in that although I've been riding off & on since the very early 70's, the only crash I ever had was the ONE time I rode on the back of my RD400 2-up.
A women backed out of her driveway into our path; this back in '81,S SeaFair Sunday in Seattle, no helmet law in WA state then. This was also the only time I've EVER ridden w/o one...young & stupid then (hmmmm I guess I'm old and stupid now LOL). I had on only the following: shorts, tank top, sunglasses and sandals. I remember feeling the rear wheel slide out as he was putting the bike down, saying to myself, "Oh shit!" and then waking up on the side of the street next to the curb, with about 2 dozen people staring at my blood covered head & body. The first thing I heard was some woman telling a cop on the scene that she'd seen me slide and then my head bounce off the curb. So I guess I'm pretty lucky to still be here! I had a broken clavicle, concussion with about 19 stitches in my head, and road rash on my right leg bad enough that I couldn't walk for almost 3 weeks w/o a lot of pain. I still have road rash scars on my back near my right shoulder and on the outside of both hands which look a bit like I was burned. I guess the fact I had no medical insurance assured I wouldn't "need" skin grafts.

Well, it didn't knock any sense into me, because I still have an overridding passion for Cafe Racers and sport-oriented bikes, and especially old 2 strokes!

Got broadsided by a truck who was speeding up a back road on my XR80... Miss that little bastard... Catwalks all day.
Cracked the frame of the bike in half... Sold everything else to a guy with a frame, should have got the frame off him instead.
I suffered a broken arm, messed up knees, and some severly messed up hips (as I was pretty young and still growing at the time). My friend who was riding behind me said I hit my head off of the tailgate on the way down (yep, over the top, down over the back), lucky I never broke my neck.
Never sued, should have, the guy is a rich bastard and the grandson of a fromer premier of my province.

Worst one I've had was actually on a Vespa. A little vespa 90. But a seriously tuned 90. It had a 135cc top end kit. Lots of porting work done to it. A racing crank, 28mm mukini, some bad ass gearing including a 4th gear, and a expansion pipe. It would seriously pull torque wheelies in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I was maybe 18 and hand pretty much every penny I had into that bike but really loved it. But I was always showing off. I loved the look on peoples face when I blew past them at over 100kph. I was bombing down a street in downtown Toronto and hit a street car track dead on. I was being an idiot and doing like 70kph when I should have been doing maybe 50. didn't even see the tracks. Man I came off that bike so fast! The front tire just locked up in the track. I went face first into the right hand curb. I has wearing a full face and literaly cracked the chin guide in half. If it wasn't for the helmet I think I would have been killed. Instead I just had some wicked road rash and a little whip lash. The scooter went skidding across the road to the left and was pretty much totaled. (except for the engine!!!) I remember people running over and trying to get me to stay on the ground and I kept trying to light a smoke. I still miss that scooter. Sold the engine a year later to pay my rent.

Yeah the other accident I had was when I was 17. I used to ride one of those 50cc scooters to and from work, back when I couldn't afford a real machine so didn't have a license. So I fall asleep and wake up in the hospital. I was so concused that I dont' remember anything of that day. Apparently I was in yet another hit and run, ambulence pulled me out of a back road ditch with my scotter thrown about around me. I had a dislocated shoulder, and a broken femur, and was so concust having just been wearing a bicycle helmet. The first thing I remember is people asking me the date... I got the day and the month right, but for some reason I said the year was 1983, that fucker knocked me back to 1983. I had a metal rod placed in my femur to help it mend and scews in my hip and in my knee to hold it in place, no cast needed for a broken femur these days, who'da known? So chalk up that accident and the first one I posted I have a metal rod in my hip and that same hip has metal plates from my second accident. So I figure the longer I ride, the closer to being a cyborg Ill become. People always ask me why Im getting back on a bike after all this. Im 23 and have owned three bikes in my motorcycle career; It's in my blood. It's good to have a community like this one where we can post about all nerly losing our lives and have a laugh about it, or if it was in person, have a nice round of pints. Untill then, lets keep the rubber down....
